We went bananas. Literally. 🍌
One of the projects we helped fund through the Café Femenino Foundation is supporting women coffee producers in Guadalupe, Peru, to make and sell chifles — crispy banana chips.
Bananas are one of the main crops grown on local farms, but because almost everyone grows them, much of the harvest can go to waste.
By turning bananas into chifles, the women can add value, create a product to sell, and build another source of income alongside coffee.
And it’s not just about learning how to slice, fry, seal and package. The women are also building commercial skills — tracking costs, managing sales and thinking about how to market their product beyond their own community.
The project has already delivered equipment, kitchen supplies, seed funding, and a simple system to track income and expenses.
Small idea. Real impact. Very crunchy.
