Wasn't planning to have lunch at in Beaconsfield today, but through a lucky series of events, that's what happened. Have you been here? Have you been here recently?
The restaurant has just turned 13. It's owned and run by two brothers and . They grow all their fruit and vegetables on a nearby farm, where the O.My team also works one day a week. Produce is preserved and fermented in cool ways, such as the tomato salt served with the sourdough. It feels good here: spontaneous and purposeful. You can see how beautiful the food is. It's also delicious and creatively layered.
Today's visit made me think about learning, how a lot of people move from job to job, place to place, to expose themselves to new things, stretch themselves or maybe prove themselves in some way. Chayse and Blayne, on the other hand, have kept going deeper in their own small, independent restaurant. It's a pretty refined experience today, while also being relaxed and fun. I appreciate the clarity of the offering.
O.My has two Good Food Guide hats so you couldn't really call it under the radar. But I do think it gets forgotten sometimes, being 40km south-east of the city. Choose it for your next occasion, treat meal or - like me - random Friday.
Thanks for a good convo about restaurants. Sorry I talked about so much.
(Royboy is the guys' dad and he makes the staff meals, how nice is that)
