A proud moment for E. J. McDougall.

This month, our proprietor and oenologist, Edward McDougall, was featured in The Australian, with critic Nick Ryan highlighting two wines especially close to our hearts — our Margaret River Chardonnay and 87-year-old vine Grenache from Blewitt Springs, McLaren Vale.

Behind every bottle is the dedication of remarkable vineyard partners, the craftsmanship of consultant winemaker Lilian Carter, and a shared belief that Australian fine wine belongs on the world stage.

To everyone who has supported the journey so far — thank you. The story is only just beginning.

Our 2026 release collection has received exceptional international acclaim from two of the wine world’s most respected authorities — Robert Parker Wine Advocate and The Vintage Journal.

Described as:

What does it mean to be a négociant-éleveur in Australia today?

In 2026, it is no longer simply about sourcing fruit—it is about stewardship.

At E. J. McDougall, we work hand-in-hand with a close circle of growers, selecting only the finest parcels from sites we know intimately. These partnerships are built over time, grounded in trust, and driven by a shared pursuit of excellence.

Because exceptional wine does not begin in the cellar—it begins in the vineyard.

Our role is to honour that fruit. To guide it with precision. To elevate, never overshadow.

This is the essence of our négociant philosophy:
quality grapes, enduring relationships, and wines of lasting significance.

Production remains limited. Availability, even more so.

Harvest, complete.

In Tasmania’s Coal River Valley, our Riesling has now been picked, bringing to a close a long, graceful growing season. As autumn settles across the vineyard, the fruit has reached a remarkable point of purity, flavour, and intensity.

Our winemaker, Lilian, is quietly confident. The foundations for an exceptional 2026 are now in place.

And while one chapter concludes, another continues to command attention.

The 2024 McLaren Vale Old Vine Shiraz—awarded 97 points by Erin Larkin of Robert Parker Wine Advocate—is nearing full allocation.

From vineyard to cellar, excellence is fleeting—and never guaranteed twice.

On ANZAC Day, we open allocation of a wine that understands endurance.

There are places where time is not rushed — it is honoured.
Blewitt Springs, McLaren Vale is one of them.

Planted in 1939, these old vines have endured decades of seasons, yet continue to speak with quiet authority — structure shaped by history, depth shaped by restraint.

The 2024 Old Vine Shiraz is not a wine of force, but of patience. Not intervention, but inheritance.

A reminder that endurance is not an idea — it is something lived.

Allocation opens 25th April.

There are vintages where the winemaker leads.
And there are vintages where the vineyard speaks.

In 2024, the old vines of McLaren Vale gave everything — depth, structure, and quiet power shaped by time itself. The role of craftsmanship was restraint. Precision. Respect.

The result is a Shiraz defined not by intervention, but by legacy.

Allocation list closes in 3 days.
Limited parcels. No re-release.

This is the final call to secure your place.
