Sassy Sister was built on resilience, grit, and a lot of stubborn belief. Yesterday tested all of that.

We are endlessly grateful to everyone who checked in, offered help, or stood alongside us in thought. Special thanks to our next door neighbour Tim for fighting the fires with us. We’re also deeply proud of the calm, courage, and determination shown in the face of something truly terrifying.

The crops can be replanted. The land will heal. And when the time is right, we’ll rebuild what was lost—together.

This is what remains after yesterday’s fires, and to show what we’ve lost.

The land is scorched. The crops that fed our liqueurs are gone. It’s devastating to see years of care reduced to ash.

But the heart of Sassy Sister is still here. It is still the calling place of our family and we will rebuild. The distillery is intact. We are safe. And that matters more than anything.

We’re sharing this not for sympathy, but to be honest about the reality of making things by hand, on the land, and at the mercy of nature.

Yesterday, fires tore through our property with frightening speed. What you’re seeing here is Amanda and Rob doing everything they could to protect what we’ve built. They were trying to keep the fire at bay at the perimeter of the property but it ended up breaking through.

The flames took all of our crops. Every last one. But through hard work and grit, the distillery itself was spared.

It’s hard to put into words how close this came, or how grateful we are that no one was hurt. Right now, we’re taking a moment to breathe, take stock, and feel deeply thankful for what still stands.

Romanov Royale (at home)
30ml Brogan’s Way Strawberries & Cream Gin
15ml Sassy Sister Blueberry
7.5ml Marionette Mûre
7.5ml strawberry sugar syrup
15ml lemon juice
1 tsp lingonberry jam

Shake all ingredients with ice, strain into a glass, and garnish with a blackberry.
