How many of these do I need to hatch to get chocolate silkies 🤣 so far I have Araucana looking silked things (great beard haha) his got no pom though. polish looking things, 2 choc silkie looking things! Lots of straight comb throwbacks! I just want one silked boy with all the bells and whistles is that too much to ask?! 😬🤣 good start for f2 though.

Lastest hatch. 2 choc, looking ok. 1 black, 2.. lavender… the orps I used carried so I suspected this would happen. Which will be interesting none the least! Also have very choc mottled looking chick. Not sure who is the parents there but I feel it’s not who I thought😳

Just candled all the eggs in the machine. Here’s hoping all these babies coming out will give me a decent breeding set to choose from 😮‍💨 cause now 4/5 silkie f1 girls are broody 🤣 ..again. Leaving me with one chocolate satin showgirl to get the job sorted.

Finally! They are laying! Only took for me to pick everyone else up. And let them out to free range to get them laying 😮‍💨 they now have the whole back pen while the other 6 breeds stay penned 🤣

The pullets are older then my blue and silver laced pullets who have been laying for months! While their eggs haven’t sized up yet and I can’t use them. The golds seem to be the same size as the hens eggs so maybe they were just waiting for their free ranging moment. To be fair the blue & splash laced are a free ranging daily flock. The silvers get 1-2 times a week out of their pen on their rotation.

First lot of eggs will be going in the machine soon. Weighing to make sure the hens eggs are only going in. Or at least the largest for a while. Once the 3 hens are fert checked eggs and chicks will be available from those.

As for the silvers and blues 🤣 1 silver hen is laying. 1 blue hen is laying and the others are all broody 😬 lots of pullet eating eggs available 😮‍💨 who are not broody hahaha I knew this season would be tricky going in with only a few aged hens!

Most of these guys lay at an earlier age. Giving very small eggs. If laying later in age they lay a decent size from the start. They are known to be a broody breed. I love them. Their feathering is majestic. We do the 4 colours over here. Gold pen, silver pen and blue/splash pen.

Eventually they will be a 7 hen 2 rooster team. For now it’s whatever is large enough to breed from.

Now this one is very special too me. Many know I dapple in creating new colours. This one is my own creation of a breed. I am the sole creator these guys. They have a certain comb, type, look, blue/green egg (mostly blue) pattern and feather colours I’m going for. I’ve created their own breed standard.

Every year someone tries to recreate / breed them. Which is fine. But please find your own name for them. Call them what they are. Mini Easter Eggers. The Fairy Eggers are designed to look a certain way. They still get throwbacks. I’ve been breeding these for 7 years and they have many additives. I’ve used the same rooster for 5-6 of those years.. you can see by how long his spurs are 🤣 I need to work out how to trim those bad boys! Might poke his own eye out doing the deed!

These girls are 4 generations worth of breeding. The first lot were black and white 🤣 baby crows lol. Hefty baby crows at that! I slowly got the size right then had to work on colours. Adding new breeds created aggression. Hence the same male as his lovely. There is now another lovely black mottled in the pen. He has been kept as his split for lavender along with some of the girls.

They are a lovely little backyard bantam that is interested in EVERYTHING you do around the yard 🤣 so many people say when getting chicks. ‘What are those?’ Oh fairy Eggers, they are little and fun and lay cute little coloured eggs. Safe to say they always come back for a couple of pullets.

High focus on the feather colouring this season. Comb type and coloured egg. If you want to get your hands of some of these little guys. I have plenty of eggs available! Even the old girls lay their fair share of eggs. 7 hens. 5 eggs a day at least 🤣 and they lay over winter months. Only stopping for a short period.

Something a little different last hatch!
Black Australorp standards and Rhode Island Reds (and some oops I think)

31/36 eggs (posted and transported too me) mighta been 4 dozen lol I can’t remember now! I didn’t pull that many though. Was nearly 4 weeks ago now! and 18/ 2 1/2 dozen ish (lucky eggs after a fox attack 😮‍💨)

These guys were hatched as an incubation service rather then from my own lot or eggs I’ve brought in.

Hats off to the actual breeder of these which I do not know. The eggs just came in tissues and egg cartons. Way less effort then i put in 🤣 and they developed and hatched just fine! All eggs that went into lockdown 31 all hatched! Not too bad!! Probably the best hatch rate I’ve had from posted eggs!

These guys have been collected and off to their home just up the road.

Bitter sweet, today. Some of our girls that have been apart of our family for a few years have moved onto another family that aligns with our shared vision in life.

Our 6 blue tag ewes and their babies have gone now to live their best life in the hills of meadows & valleys.

Our old girls and their lambs will remain with us for the time being. Some of the lambs will be moved on at a later date.

While it was sad to see them go. I was happy where they are headed. Our stock numbers have finally reduced and should be easier to maintain in the future. Now to work on reducing some of my current rooster collection!

Anyone that knows me. Knows this beast is my work horse. I need it. It’s not just my mower. It’s my wheels from point A-B, my cart behind her, for compost/chook p**p, she’s a feed cart, she carry’s my children, wood collection, whew had 3.6m tin strapped 😅, chickens, everything!!! Most of all she’s my emotional support vehicle 😬

She’s been out of action for a couple weeks after the starter motor cracked the top and she fell apart.

Few days ago the new motor came. It’s happened before and my mechanic bro fixed it for me. Today I attempted a rerun in my head. Luckily I have high attention to detail and a weird ass memory, the baby was sleeping so no missing tools, no missing bolts! No distractions!! She come apart with a little elbow grease and went back together like a dream. Crank the engine and she’s back baby!!!

Whole farm mowed!! Well some 🤣 however o think one of the chicken tractors in weeded under and that didn’t budge oops.

Give you first dibs on eggs when they are close to 100% if you can get the number correct hahaha between 1 - 36 ish and GO!
