BTS getting a bed back into production after 8 months under w**d mat

This was a big one as the grass had started to grow through the w**d mat 😵‍💫 (also the reason we don't plant into w**d mat here on the farm).

We brought out the muscles removing the grass, edging, lifting and aerating with the garden fork and finally using the rake to make a lovely soft and even surface for our plugs.

It's been pretty mild on the farm so far this winter so we're making the most of it. Can't wait to see these blooming in spring!

Mother's Day week!

For so late in the season it's been a big one! We had a week full of harvesting, sending buckets of flowers off to .native.girl & for Mother's Day bouquets.

Our attention then turned to the wedding of Karla & Ben at .merribee - providing buckets of flowers for DIY bouquets & venue decoration, along with preparing two large urn arrangements for the ceremony. I can't wait to see how it all came together on the day!

Saturday saw our flowers gracing the top of a special (& I'm guessing delicious) birthday cake. & Sunday a few lucky mums received surprise flowers today.

I hope all the mums and mother figures enjoyed their celebrations today... or like me, will take a moment on another day to do something special.

Celebrate Easter with fresh flowers!

The garden is pumping with flowers at the moment so we'd like to share. We've opened the garden for two pick your own sessions; Saturday afternoon and Monday morning.

Come wander amongst the towering dahlias, nestled in our gorgeous bushland setting. Collect your own bucket of flowers to take home and decorate your tables this long weekend.

We're heading to end of our season so some of our plants are getting a little wild. This may mean negotiating some rows with a full bucket of flowers is challenging, but absolutely worth the adventure!

If you'd rather let us do the picking, we also offer DIY buckets and gift bouquets.

All events and flowers are available on our website (link in bio)

What's happening on the farm

Were well into autumn planting now! Finding space and filling the beds to have flowers for future months.

The garden is still pumping out LOADS of flowers! At the moment it's a balancing act between picking, maintaining the beds we have currently producing and preparing & planting new beds. We have so many flowers that if we picked them all we wouldn't have time for anything else, so we are primarily picking to order.

We ask you allow us 24-48 hours to have flowers ready for your order. This gives us time to pick and condition the flowers so they'll be looking their best for you when you're ready to collect them.

If you would like some flowers for an event, gift or just a bit of colour get in touch!

The faces behind the flowers... meet Patti

Patti has been part of the Kiruna farm team since 2020. She was initially a somewhat destructive influence in the garden, but has now matured to be an invaluable member of the team- she's chief flower inspector, keeping a close eye on operations across the farm.

Patti's 4 favourite things in the world are eating, sleeping, running fast and cuddles & she excels at all 4!

If you come to visit the farm or collect flowers from the house, chances are Patti will be there to greet you.

The things we do for the flowers!

This week we realised the garden wasn't being watered. Figuring there was a blockage in the inlet Murray stripped down to un**es and waded out into the dam to investigate. Many trips in & out of the dam later, the blockage (mud) was flushed out, the inlet pipe was moved to deeper water & pump primed & coaxed into drawing water.

The second picture is the state of the dam after that pump. Although the rain here has made the garden happier than it was a couple of months ago, it hasn't been enough for any significant dam flow.

Managing water is one of the many moving parts to a productive flower garden! How's the water situation at your place?
