Is my garlic ready for harvest?
This is a question i am often asked.
If you have planted Turban garlic, and live in Southern Vic, your garlic may be almost ready to harvest.
Plants in my small crop have 4-5 green leaves left, nd are starting to collapse. A horizontal cut reveals the cloving up inside the bulb is complete, and outer skins are still strong.
But this garlic would benefit from another week in soil drying off, or starting to cure.
It is important not to water now.
But if it rains, don't stress. That's nature!!
NB. If your garlic is another varietal, it may not be ready for weeks, even months! (My creoles harvest around Christmas)
