MIDWEEK CHECK-IN
We’re halfway through the week, so let’s talk about something important…

What is the ONE baked treat you could never say no to?

Is it:

For me, choosing just one would be nearly impossible.

And this is exactly why I love baking. There is always another flavour to try, another recipe to experiment with and another excuse to put the oven on.

✨ And just like that… another week done! ✨

Another week of teaching, learning, busy days, full calendars and probably far too many coffees… ☕😂

And now it’s time to swap the classroom for the kitchen and let the baking begin. 🧑‍🏫➡️🍰

There’s something I really love about the end of the week.

After spending the week helping others learn, solve problems and discover new things, I get to step into the kitchen and do a little learning of my own.

A new recipe.
A new idea.
A new flavour.
A new challenge.

Because with baking, just like teaching, you never really stop learning.

Some weeks bring perfect results.

Some bring lessons disguised as disasters. 😂

But every week brings something worth celebrating.

So here’s to Friday night, flour on the bench, chocolate in the kitchen and a weekend full of possibilities. ❤️

Teacher by week. Baker by passion. Always learning. Always creating.

🍪🍫 Meet the Biscoff Bites! 🍫🍪

Because apparently Biscoff fudge wasn’t indulgent enough… so I decided to coat it in TTB chocolate. 😍

It feels like the right time to reintroduce myself, and perhaps reflect a little on the journey that has brought me here.

My name is Matthew and I’m Teacher Turned Baker

For the past few years, Teacher Turned Baker has been a little corner of my world — a place where two things I have always loved have come together: teaching and baking.

Teaching has been such a meaningful part of my life. The relationships, the laughter, the challenges, the little moments when something finally clicks, and the privilege of watching young people grow and discover what they are capable of.

There have been countless moments over the years that have reminded me why I chose teaching in the first place.

And then there has always been baking.

Baking has been my creative escape. My happy place. A chance to slow down, experiment, create something from scratch and, most importantly, share it with others.

There is something incredibly special about making something with your own hands and then seeing the joy it brings someone else.

Looking back, I realise that teaching and baking have always had more in common than I first thought.

Both require patience.
Both involve creativity.
Both involve plenty of learning — and the occasional disaster! 😂
And both are ultimately about giving something to others.

Teacher Turned Baker was never about leaving teaching behind.

It has always been about embracing another part of who I am.

Over the past few years, this little journey has evolved, changed and grown alongside me. There have been busy periods, quiet periods, successes, plenty of lessons and lots of baking in between.

And now, I feel ready to reconnect with it again.

So, if you've been here for a while, thank you for being part of the journey.

And if you're new here, welcome.

I'm still teaching.
I'm still baking.
And I'm still incredibly grateful that I get to do both.

Teacher by profession. Baker by passion. And very lucky to find so much joy in both.

Long weekends are always something to look forward to, especially when they come with a little extra time to spend in the kitchen.

There’s something special about slowing down, pulling out the mixing bowls, and enjoying the simple rhythm of baking without having to watch the clock. Whether it’s trying a new recipe or revisiting an old favourite, those extra hours always seem to spark a little creativity.

Days like today remind me of why I bake. It’s not just about the finished treat—it’s about the process, the comfort, and the joy that comes from creating something homemade to share with family and friends.

I hope everyone has had a wonderful long weekend and found some time to do something they enjoyed.
