"When I was 9 years old, I wanted to make some pocket money. I was really lucky – few people rejected me!

Josh's Rainbow Eggs produces truly free range eggs from pasture-raised hens in the Macedon Ranges of Victoria, available now in Coles and Woolworths around Melbourne. So I took over my family’s flock of 40 hens, collected the eggs and cold-called into our local shops in town. Eventually, I grew my flock and started selling at farmers markets. I loved the markets because I could talk to customers a

bout why they liked my eggs. But they were unpredictable in bad weather, so I approached local supermarkets and soon I had 1,200 hens to meet the new demand. In 2014, Mum and I talked to the major supermarkets and since then, she's been working full time in the business and the whole family helps out. Today, you can buy my eggs in 30 supermarkets and independent stores around Melbourne and Macedon Ranges! We now have over 7,000 hens and I still collect the eggs every day. I also visit stores to stock the shelves and meet customers who are buying eggs. I love telling people about our hens and what a great life they have because they’re free to forage in the pasture."

We have just donated our 5 millionth egg!

That is one egg for every person living in greater Melbourne.

In 2017 we decided to make giving part of our business values at Josh’s Rainbow Eggs.

When we first started out on our farm in 2006 we provided food for our family. As we grew we provided food for our customers. We grew more and more…so then providing food for those who actually can’t afford it, was the natural extension of what we do.

Once we started donating eggs we saw how great the need was for eggs. Eggs are the most sought after donated food. This is because they are a highly nutritious source of protein, they are easily distributed and loved by all families. Everyone knows how to make a great meal with eggs.

The amazing heartfelt appreciation we receive from all our charities has driven us to give more each year.

Before there was a successful egg business, there was an attempt at a jam business.

9 year old Josh had a lot of ideas for making pocket money, and the least successful of them all was jam.
In Josh's words

"I convinced my sister to come pick berries with me. Now, if you've ever made jam, you know you need a lot of berries. We spent days at the creek picking blackberries. We made the jam and left it overnight to set.

Two days of hard work. I came down in the morning to check it out. There were so many jars. I was about to have lots of pocket money, and already looking forward to the next Lego set I'd had my eye on.

I looked at the jars. The jam hadn't set. I was devastated”.

That's when Mum felt sorry for me and said, "How about you take care of the chickens and sell the eggs”
And that's how Josh's Rainbow Eggs began.

The First 6 years of Josh’s Rainbow Eggs.
Thank you for being part of our journey💙

2010 - Started selling to our neighbours, then walked the shops in Gisborne selling to shopkeepers one by one

2011 - Farmers markets became our weekends, and we sold out every time

2012 - Our first Farm Days, opening the gates for everyone to visit for free

2013 - Our first supermarket, Riddells Creek

2014 - We then went to La Manna Essendon & won our first award

2015 - Started selling to Coles & Curtis described Josh as Coles youngest supplier

And then to Woolworths

Fast forward to today (2026)
We supply over 60,000 dozen eggs a week across Victoria.
We've donated more than 5 million eggs to families in need.
You'll find us in 300 stores statewide.

Our eggs are super fresh so you have at least 5-6 weeks on the best before.

UPDATE: Jumbos sold out, now only 30 egg trays.

Happy Easter 🐣 😊
We were a good news story on Channel 7 last night.

Just before Easter Josh and I spent the morning at a very special place for homeless people in Melbourne called St. Mary’s House of Welcome. Every morning the chef makes breakfast.
Seeing men and women coming in off the streets in Fitzroy to a warm welcoming place and enjoying a plate of our eggs made it very real for us.

Every week we load pallets of eggs onto trucks that go off to various charities. Seeing our eggs actually being eaten was really wonderful.
