Crater CRATER is a not-for-profit research foundation set up to advance scientific knowledge and promote the benefits of regenerative agriculture.

We welcome scientists, farmers, students and ecology groups to visit our research base in Goondicum Crater. As CRATER is located on a private working cattle station, the site is not open to the public. Only those groups who align with the objectives of CRATER will be considered for entry. Please contact us to book your visit.

Calling all koala lovers 🐨. OWAD Environment and BCCA are hosting a free series of koala workshops across the Burnett Region between June 7 and 9.

One of the events will be hosted at CRATER’s home base on Goondicum Station on Wednesday June 7, so come along to learn about koala ecology and see a koala detection dog demonstration. You’ll also learn about how to collect scats for testing — and how community collection of scats will deliver data to help koala populations across the Burnett region. Visiting Goondicum is also a good opportunity to see how native wildlife can live in harmony with productive agribusiness through regenerative agriculture.

There will also be workshops held at Gayndah, Kingaroy, and Nanango. Check out all the details and reserve your FREE spot for one of these 2-hour koala workshops at https://www.eventbrite.com/cc/burnett-koala-workshop-series-2188499

Did you know that a cure for antibiotic resistance might be hiding in your backyard?

You can be part of the search for the next generation of antibiotics, by joining one of Australia’s largest-ever citizen science projects, Soils for Science. You can help by supplying a soil sample from your property— whether that’s a suburban backyard or an outback cattle station.

The team of scientists at UQ’s Institute for Molecular Bioscience will study your soil for new and interesting microbes to develop into potential life-saving medicines.

CRATER is proud to be a partner of the Soils for Science project. We’re big on soil science here at CRATER, and the Soils for Science program aligns with our foundation’s goals of promoting the importance of nature to human and animal health. And we would be thrilled if you could get involved.

To get your free soil sample kit, visit our website at crater.org.au/soils-for-science/

If you’ve already taken a soil sampling kit from one of our events, please don’t forget to send it in!

Our natural capital workshops in Monto and Gayndah were a great success! Thanks so much to everyone involved, as well as everyone who shared it with their networks to get such a fantastic turnout on both days. We are extremely grateful to our expert speakers — Henry Hinds from RCS, Elissa Black and Saul Clough from GreenCollar, Tom Webster from the LRF, and Dr Amanda Hansson and Annie Keleher from Accounting for Nature.

A special thank you to the wonderful team at BCCA, and Marisa Young for your fantastic support in organising the event. Thanks too to our host venues and their delicious catering : Albert Hotel Monto and Nourished on Capper cafe in Gayndah, as well as to our in-the-paddock hosts Genevieve and Matthew Dent and Goondicum for allowing us to visit their properties to conduct on-farm demonstrations.

Finally, we want to thank all who attended the events for your interest and participation. It was pleasing to see such a wide audience - including landowners, graziers, farmers, bankers, environmentalists, accountants and ag business advisors. CRATER will be running future workshops on a range of topics, so please sign up to our newsletter on our website to be the first to know about them.

We ditched the classroom again Yesterday. Here we are out at Dappil, a grazing property at Mt Lawless, where landowners Genevieve and Matthew Dent have kindly allowed our presenters to run some on-farm demonstrations of natural capital. Always wonderful to get practical demonstrations to consolidate the theory!

A huge thanks to the Dents, our speakers from Resource Consulting Services , GreenCollar , Accounting For Nature and Queensland Environment , as well as Burnett Catchment Care Association , Clearshot Digital, and the Australian Government National Landcare Program.
