Broken Bay Pearl Farm

Broken Bay Pearl Farm Australian Akoya Pearls from the pristine waters of Broken Bay, the birthplace of the most lustrous Akoya Pearls in the world.

Broken Bay Akoya Pearls are the most lustrous, natural Akoya pearls in the world. Originally famous as the host to the Japanese cultured pearl, the Akoya oyster is native to the east coast of Australia. It is only natural these pristine waters produce a more lustrous pearl than found anywhere else in the world. Unlike the pearls of Asia, the Broken Bay Akoya pearls are not bleached or artificially coloured. They are naturally lustrous, uniquely pure.

September is Biodiversity Month 🦪

At Broken Bay, we work within a living estuary where the health of the water, the changing tides and the life around us are all connected.

Our native Akoya pearl oysters and Sydney Rock oysters are just one small part of that bigger story. Farming on the Hawkesbury gives us a front-row seat to the variety of life that shares these waterways with us, and a daily reminder of how important healthy aquatic environments are.

Biodiversity Month is a good reminder to look a little closer at the life around us, and the ecosystems that make places like Broken Bay possible.

Something special is taking shape for Pearls & Plates… 👀

We recently welcomed acclaimed Bundjalung chef Mindy Woods to Broken Bay Pearl Farm, where she spent the day getting to know our Akoya pearl oysters a little more, exploring local and native ingredients and drawing inspiration from the Hawkesbury River ahead of Pearls & Plates this October.
In Mindy’s words, our Akoya pearl oysters are “the truffle of the sea” and we can’t wait to see how they inspire what she brings to the table. 🦪😋

This is what makes Pearls & Plates so special. The food doesn’t begin in a kitchen. It begins with the place, the produce and the people behind it.

On 17 & 18 October, guests will journey from our Shellar Door by boat to a private riverside homestead for an immersive day of food, culture, storytelling and Australian pearling heritage, with Mindy at the heart of this year’s dining experience.

Tickets are on sale now, with different ways to make the day your own, from adding the optional Pearl Masterclass to arriving in style by seaplane.

There’s something special about tasting oysters right where the story begins. 🦪

At Broken Bay Pearl Farm, our oyster tastings are a chance to slow down, learn a little more about what’s in the shell, and enjoy freshly shucked oysters overlooking the Hawkesbury River.

You can add an oyster tasting to your visit, experience it as part of selected tours, or simply come by the Shellar Door and enjoy a plate by the water.

Fresh, local and best enjoyed with a view.

Happy National Oyster Day! 🦪

At Broken Bay Pearl Farm, oysters are more than something delicious to eat - they’re the reason we’re here!

Taste freshly shucked Sydney Rock oysters by the water, learn to shuck your own, cruise the Hawkesbury River on an Oyster & Pearl Lovers Tour, or discover how our Australian Akoya pearl oysters grow beneath the surface.

There are plenty of ways to enjoy oysters at Broken Bay, with fresh oysters available at the Shellar Door throughout the week and oyster experiences included across selected tours.

So today, we’re celebrating the oysters behind the food, the farm and the pearls.

We were honoured to once again support A Bear Affair 2026, celebrating 25 years of the incredible work of Bear Cottage

Congratulations to Nan, who was thrilled to win our Pearls of Australia lucky key prize and couldn't wait to put her pearls on! ✨

Most importantly, thanks to the generosity of everyone involved, the evening raised an incredible $825,000 to support Bear Cottage and the Sydney Childrens Hospital Foundation. 🩷

Supporting A Bear Affair each year is something we're incredibly proud to be part of. Knowing that our contribution helps support children with life-limiting conditions and their families makes this event especially meaningful to our team.

Thank you to the Sydney Children's Hospitals Foundation for allowing us to play a small part in such an important cause, and congratulations on a wonderful evening and an outstanding result. 👏🩷

Today, the menu started taking shape! 🦪🥂

We welcomed acclaimed Bundjalung chef to the Shellar Door for a day of tasting, experimenting and gathering inspiration beside the Hawkesbury River.

With our Akoya pearl oysters cooking over the fire and a table filled with native and regional ingredients, Mindy began exploring the flavours that will shape her menu for Pearls & Plates this October.

There is still plenty being kept under wraps, but after today, we are even more excited to see what she brings to the table.
