Connewarran Merino Stud

Thanks to all who joined and supported our sale on Wednesday. It was a wonderful day and great to catch up with long term clients whilst welcoming some first time visitors also. Congratulations to Dean and Kasey Monks of Bothwell, Tasmania, who secured Lot 13, the top priced ram, for $8,000. This year's sale averaged $2,600.

Rams are in in preparation for their big day tommorrow. It's probably for the best.

Eli and Hamish and the Weatherly family look forward to catching up with the many wonderful, familiar faces that have been involved with Connewarran for so many years as buyers, interested onlookers and general supporters. Hopefully we'll get to know some new people to. Please join us for what is always a very pleasant day with some sunshine, hamburgers, brownies, maybe a cheeky b**r, and of course the stars of the show, the rams.

Another little challenge in the life of a farmer and his (usually) trusty dog. Trying to get a mob of sheep past a concerned mother emu and her three young chicks.

Attitude matters. One of the great things about working with sheep is observing their different personalities and approaches to life. They really don't like being split up for their A+ videos and they all react differently. Some are simply indifferent. Some stay pretty still, observing what's going on and waiting for the drama to pass. Some are pretty dramatic themselves. Then, there's this little friend who seems to be saying "Excuse me Sir, but you're standing where I want to be, and I'd like to be there thank you very much!" Once suspects his daughters might have a thing or two to say to Fantastic Mr Fox when they do inevitably meet.

Hi Everyone. A+ videos are now done. Thanks so much to Eli for taking the day off work to do wool photos, Kane from Elders Mortlake for his help, and to Hamish's wonderful little assistant videographers Tilly and Tomas.

Videos are going up on our youtube channel today. Just search Connewarran Merino Stud.

Complete sale details are soon to go up on A+. Look under the sheep stud listings for 21 October.

Please be in contact with Hamish for any queries.

Final TSUs for AWI's flystrike genomics project are in the mail. It's been great to be part of this project which began with the aim of developing a breeding value for flystrike susceptibility. It's now been rolled into a new project hoping to use that genomic data for all sorts of nerdy stuff!

It's fly time and Deakin Uni are back out trialling new scents for their fly traps. It'll be interesting to see the results.

The boys have been whittled down to the final 60. Looking forward to presenting them in a month or so. Please give Hamish a call if you'd like to drop by and take a look prior to sale day.
