Bald Hills Road Night Works

Night works on Bald Hills Road will be starting soon as part of GMB Water’s Eastern Sewer Trunk Main Project. ✨

From this Sunday 31 May, lanes will be partially closed at times near Scarborough Way for preparatory works, with full trunk main construction expected to follow within the week. 🚧

Once full construction is underway, Bald Hills Road will be fully closed between Green Avenue and Scarborough Way from 7pm and 6am Sunday to Thursday nights.

During this time, light vehicles — including cars, small vans and utes — will be detoured via Green Avenue → Tate Avenue → Scarborough Way and via Scarborough Way → Penny Street → Green Avenue.

Heavy vehicle drivers will need to contact UHF 28 for directions when approaching the work zone.

Bald Hills Road will reopen daily between 6am and 7pm, with speed restrictions in place, to minimise impacts during peak travelling times.

Signage will be in place and traffic controllers will be on site to guide motorists safely through the area.

The nightly road closure between Green Avenue and Scarborough Way is expected to remain in place until August 2026, weather and ground conditions permitting.

Residents have been advised and GMB Water will provide further updates as the project progresses.

Visit our website for more information: https://gmbwater.au/projects-and-works/eastern-sector-sewer-trunk-main-upgrades

This upgrade is part of a long-term investment in the network and will deliver:
☑️ Increased capacity for current wastewater needs and future growth
☑️ Improved environmental protection by reducing the risk of leaks and overflows
☑️ Fewer service disruptions over time through modern, lower-maintenance infrastructure

GMB Water understands how busy Bald Hills Road is and appreciates your patience while this upgrade is completed.

Last week marked an exciting milestone in the construction of the new Laratinga Water Recovery Plant, with the first of a series of early morning concrete pours! 🏗️

This project is unprecedented for any South Australian local government, not only in terms of cost and complexity but also in the scale of the wastewater treatment plant and the advanced technology being implemented. The new treatment plant, expected to be completed in 2028, has been designed to replace existing at-capacity infrastructure, accommodate increasing sewer influent demand and to deliver on GMB Water’s commitment to the Environmental Protection Agency for its environmental improvement plan. 🌱

Keep your eye out in June for a further flurry of concrete trucks travelling to Springs Road into the treatment plant entrance - they are creating the foundation for what will form part of the new treatment plant! 💧

☀️ Early morning works | Wastewater Treatment Plant

If you spot lights early in the morning at the site of the new Laratinga Wastewater Recovery Plant along Springs Road — that's our crew hard at work! 🔦

We’ve a series of early morning concrete pours coming up over the next few weeks, with the first pour to occur on Wednesday, 20 May, weather permitting. Additional pours will occur in late May and early June. Works will kick off from around 5am on each day.

Concrete trucks will travel from Springs Road into the treatment plant entrance, along the road that leads to the rear of St Francis de Sales College, past the Environment Services Centre, Laratinga Pavilion, and the Community Shed.

As a result, there will be increased construction vehicle movements in the area during morning drop-off times and throughout the day.

Noise will be kept to a minimum as much as practicable, and overall impacts are expected to be minimal.

Thank you for your cooperation and patience while we carry out these essential works. 🔩

💧 How our Community Wastewater Management System (CWMS) works 💧

Did you know many properties in our community are connected to GMB Water’s CWMS?

Here’s how it works:
✔️Your septic tank plays an important role in this – it treats wastewater onsite
✔️ From there, the liquid wastewater flows into the CWMS network
✔️ It’s then safely transferred to a nearby lagoon for further treatment and disposal

To keep everything running smoothly, your septic tank is professionally desludged by our contractor approximately every five years, a service we provide which is already included in your CWMS service charge.

What does your CWMS charge cover?
The CWMS charge on your council rates isn’t just for day to day operation. It helps fund:
• ✅ Routine desludging of septic tanks
• ✅ Ongoing maintenance of the network
• ✅ Infrastructure upgrades and renewals
• ✅ Managing and operating wastewater treatment plants

If you’d like to learn more about your CWMS service, reach out to the GMB Water team on 8188 9300 or on our website www.gmbwater.au
