The grass is always greener… especially when it’s in my garden!

Meet Dottie, Po and Noni. Three very cute, very friendly sheep who occasionally decide that their paddock just isn’t quite good enough.

Apparently, the plants in my garden are much tastier than the grass they’re supposed to be eating!

Luckily for them, they’re far too cute to stay cross with. And when they’re caught somewhere they shouldn’t be, they’re always more than happy to follow me on a little walk back to their paddock.

Not sure how many of my plants will survive these three, though!

LONG POINT RENOVATION UPDATE

We thought it was time to share a few photos of how things are progressing at Long Point!

Over the school holidays, when we weren’t running farm tours, we were painting. And this week, when I haven’t been teaching and Brad hasn’t been farming… you guessed it, we’ve been painting!

The inside is SO close to being finished, and we’re finally starting to see our vision come together. The yellow walls, doors and trims are almost a thing of the past, replaced with a much lighter, brighter and calmer colour palette. Even the windows are hopefully getting painted this week, which is very exciting!

There are probably so many little changes we haven’t even shared along the way. It’s amazing how much of a difference they all make.

Now, for those who have been following along, or have visited Long Point before, you’ll know all about the teal!

It’s on the windows, the doors, and seems to pop up just about everywhere throughout the house. While we’re slowly saying goodbye to most of it, I feel like a little piece of Long Point’s 90s personality deserves to stay.

And I think I’ve found just the place… the front door!

A little pop of teal amongst our new, more understated colour scheme. What do you think? Should we keep a little bit of Long Point’s original character, or say goodbye to the teal altogether?

Next up is the outside! We’re hoping to have everything finished by the end of October, and we cannot wait to share the final reveal with you.

It’s been a lot of hard work, squeezed in around our usual jobs and farm life, but we’re getting there. One paintbrush at a time!

Woke up to this this morning.
Sent at 10pm last night (thanks for that Department of Planning).

Devastating doesn’t even begin to cover it.

We met with them. We stood on our farm and showed them what would be destroyed. We showed them the uninterrupted views from our home and paddocks. We explained that people come to Stonehenge to experience this landscape. Its history, its animals, its peace and its beauty.

Their answer? “Maybe we can plant some nice trees.”

Unless they’ve found trees that grow 100 metres tall, I’m not sure how that helps.

We told them we’ve been burnt out twice. We told them we are terrified of what happens when the next fire comes and firefighters have to contend with massive high-voltage infrastructure. We talked about our livestock, our farming operation, our tourism business, our property, our environment and the generations of history tied to this land.

We weren’t asking them to stop renewable energy.

We were asking them to stop pretending there aren’t better ways to do this.

We attended the meetings. We made submissions. We told our story. We answered their questions. We begged them to actually listen to the people who will have to live with the consequences long after the decision makers have moved on.

And after all of that, we wake up to a one page letter telling us it’s been approved.

To them, it’s a project on a map.

To us, it’s our home, our livelihood, our history and our future.

And apparently, none of that was enough.

Well, today got a whole lot cuter…

Both Poppy and Love Song have welcomed beautiful, perfect little Valais Blacknose ewe lambs yesterday.

With the cold, wet weather outside, the new mums and their babies are tucked up in the dry barn for the night, warm, cosy and exactly where they need to be.

Now comes the important part… names!

Poppy’s last lamb was Thunder, named because he arrived right in the middle of a thunderstorm. We’re thinking we might go back to a flower-inspired name for her new little girl.

Love Song already has Whitney Houston and Ed Sheeran, so naturally her newest baby needs a name worthy of joining the musical family.

So we need your help!

What flower name should we give Poppy’s baby?
And which singer should join Whitney and Ed?

The prep work is DONE and we can finally get to the fun part… painting!

Goodbye 90s yellow and hello crisp white ceilings.

When we’re not running farm tours these holidays, you’ll find us at Long Point with a paintbrush in hand. Apparently this is what we call a holiday now.

Yesterday was also our 3-year wedding anniversary and naturally, we celebrated by… painting ceilings. Very romantic.

And because apparently painting isn’t productive enough, I’ve got a fantastic teaching podcast playing while I work, so I’m squeezing in some professional development at the same time.

Romance, renovations, farm tours and PD. Living the dream!

Slowly but surely, Long Point is starting to come together and we can’t wait to show you the transformation.

WHAT YOU’LL EXPERIENCE

Meet and hand-feed our beautiful Highland cattle, brush and pat our younger Highlands and, when we have calves around, you may even get the chance to meet them.

You’ll also meet some of our other farm favourites, including:

🐑 Valais Blacknose sheep
🫏 Miniature donkeys
🐐 Pygmy goats
🐷 Miniature pigs
🐶 Our farm dogs
🐱 And, if they decide to make an appearance, our cats!

There are often new arrivals on the farm too, so you never quite know who you might meet.

📱 Phone photography is very welcome during our group tours. Professional photography requires a private booking.

🌦 Tours operate in wet weather unless conditions are considered unsafe. Tours may be rescheduled due to extreme weather or heat.

Bookings are non-refundable and cannot be transferred to another date except in exceptional circumstances.

Three years ago, Stonehenge Farm was in the middle of a transformation.

The old dairy was being turned into a reception venue for our wedding, the hens party had been celebrated - complete with a Highland cow cake - and we were counting down to the big day.

But on 16 September 2023, something else happened.

After years of asking, I finally got my Highland cows.

On our farm, we’ve always had one rule: everything has to have a purpose and, somehow, find a way to pay for itself.

And for a long time, Highland cows didn’t quite fit that rule.

I didn’t want them for milk. I certainly didn’t want them for meat.

I just really, really wanted Highland cows.

Eventually, Brad gave in, and Bonnie and Nessy arrived at Stonehenge Farm - my very first two Highlands.

At the time, I thought I was simply getting the cows I had wanted for years.

What I didn’t realise was that Bonnie and Nessy were about to find their purpose.

They became the beginning of something we had never planned.

People wanted to meet them. They wanted to feed them, brush them, photograph them and experience a little piece of farm life for themselves.

And slowly, an idea began to grow.

Those two cows became the unexpected beginning of Stonehenge Farm Agritourism.

Three years later, there are many more Highlands, plenty of other animals, thousands of visitors and experiences we never imagined we would be offering.

And it all started with Bonnie and Nessy.

Turns out they found a way to pay for themselves after all.

16 September 2023 - the day two Highland cows arrived, and without us knowing it, Stonehenge Farm changed direction.

Things are starting to happen at Long Point!

The scaffolding is up, we’re hoping painting will be underway very soon, and we’ve started looking at fresh carpet options for inside.

And yes… after almost 30 years, it’s nearly time to say goodbye to the teal windows and pink carpet. They’ve certainly had a good run!

Slowly but surely, our little farm stay is starting to come together.

Now the big decision… which carpet would you choose?
