Giving the girls some hay to keep ahead of the green drought. Short green grass looks good bit there is not much volume or goodness in it. Good to have hay in the shed. Calving is due to start in a month.

The girls are liking the feeling of some light drizzle on their backs. We are grateful to be getting this moisture before it gets too cold to promote some pasture growth.

Palinga Dainty S1 and her daughter W33, purchased from Ruth Edwards through the dispersal of her Palinga Devon Stud, arrived safely today. Many thanks David Gorton for the delivery. Dainty traces back to the cow Pinkhill Dainty 6th, imported to Tasmania by Mr G B Grubb of the Marchington Herd. Dainty 6th was eventually purchased in 1964 by the Judge family of Ban Ban. Dainty S1 represents the first introduction for over 13 years of new female genetics to the Ro Ern herd. The last introduction being the Crafty line sourced from embryos collected by John Faulkner. We are looking forward to seeing the Dainty line thrive in this environment.

Tulip S5 with her out of season heifer calf. The calf is by the neighbour's White faced Black Composite stag. She had the calf unassisted and is being a great mother to it.

Programme Locked and Loaded!

We’re excited to share the full programme for our ACHCo Surf & Turf on Saturday 21st February, and we can honestly say the interest is already looking very strong.

From coffee and paddock-to-plate BBQ from 10am, through a full morning of live demonstrations and presentations, and into an afternoon of cutting from 1pm, this is shaping up to be much more than just a competition.

It’s a day to:
🐎 watch quality horses and cattle work
πŸ„ learn from experienced local presenters
β˜• eat well, relax and catch up
πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§ bring the family and enjoy the atmosphere

This event is about community, good stock, good food and good company β€” and we’re really looking forward to welcoming everyone on the day.

Still feeding. We have had the benefit of a storm with 17 ml of rain which has at least made the place look a bit green. Expecting a run of 40+c days which will take the green away. The cows are holding their condition so far.
