🐝 Rising mite loads at Lowanna. Varroa is becoming resistant to synthetic miticides.

🐝 In this video, I inspect hives at Lowanna where Varroa mite levels have been rising steadily.

🐝 With at least two hives recording mite levels of around 50 per 300 bees, I made the decision to place Bayvarol in them.

I came across this big bloke up at Lowanna yesterday. He was stretched right across the road & wasn't having me move him on. He looked dry & hungry.

Something I’ve never seen before. This largish swarm turned up yesterday & wouldn’t settle like they normally do. To cut a long story short it flew into this 8 frame triple that swarmed 8 days ago. Went out this morning to put a box of foundation on it to give them room & found a dead mated queen on the ground out the front. I have a theory on what happened. What do you think?

Social media posts like the one below are popping up frequently & I struggle to understand how people are losing their hives this way.

Varroa has been in Australia for three & a half years.

Hundreds of beekeepers like me, caught up in Red zones through no fault of our own, lost our bees and our businesses so that the rest of Australia might have a chance at going into the future Varroa-free.

All the publicity, the training opportunities & support offered by beekeeping clubs seem to fall on deaf ears.

If you are on the east coast of Australia, you should assume you have Varroa. You need to check your bees at least monthly, and when Varroa is detected, you must monitor your mite levels.

Here is a list of things that are not killing your bees:

5g phone towers
Roundup
The Greens
Poison flowers
Wet weather
Small hive beetles
Government conspiracy
The DPI
Chemtrails
Bill Gates

Varroa mites are the reason that bees are dying.

If you don't intervene in some way to control Varroa mites, your bees WILL DIE.
