Out 'N' About Free to Roam Eggs

Hi, it’s Freeda here ( you know, FREEDA ROAM )
Well, after giving some of the more rebellious young girls the history of my love life in my younger day, we’re back to the main purpose for us being here at Out ‘N” About eggs in Nannup and that is to lay beautiful fresh eggs for you. Although we are in the middle of winter with lush green grass in the paddocks as far as the eye can see, dams all full of water and we want for nothing, this time of year the girls can go off the lay a bit. Apparently it’s something to do with the days being shorter and the reduced hours of sunlight. I know there probably is a scientific explanation, however I think it’s more of a natural thing. It happens to everyone. Cold weather, raining on and off for weeks on end and the dull grey outlook. I bet it’s not just us chickens that aren’t at the top of our game during these winter months. It’s my job to try and motivate the girls during this time of year, to put in the extra effort to keep laying those eggs every day for our customers. Another month or so and the season will change and everyone will be happier. Come on spring...

I was relating my life story to some of the younger girls here at Out ’N’ About eggs to show them I wasn’t always a bossy old fossil as they call me. After that first move out of the barn, life moved on at a rapid pace. I learned to know Mum’s calls, to find shade in the middle of the day and to run for cover when it started raining. While my upbringing was ideal, life on the farm wasn’t without its dangers. If the alarm was given that there was a hawk or eagle circling, or a fox skulking about at dusk or even just a storm coming through, we were taught to take shelter under Mum or run for the barn. As the weeks turned to months, I became more independent. Without really noticing, my fluffy down turned into a mat of sleek feathers and my little chick “peeps” turn into “clucks”. I’ve been aware of the young roosters that are about the farm for a while. I hear them learning to crow at sunrise and see them strutting around the yard.
I hadn’t really taken much interest until I saw HIM.. Iridescent black and emerald feathers with a bright red comb and the biggest set of dangling wattles I’ve ever seen. I’m Smitten! I’ll have to find out his name.

Freeda received a letter 😊so excited. She wants us to frame it and hang it in her paddock but we said the weather would ruin it so we put it on here so every one can see how popular she is.
