Happy birthday to our amazing matriarch, Ann Ellis.

We won’t say exactly how many years she’s been in the wine industry, but let’s just say it’s her whole life! Ann was born Ann Tyrrell, her dad, Murray Tyrrell made the Tyrrell winery famous, something her brother and his kids have carried on to this day.

After she met a young winemaking upstart called John Ellis in the 70’s they move to Victoria to help pioneer a number of winemaking styles there.

In their early 30’s with two little kids they took the plunge and bought a bare block of land in mostly unknown Macedon Ranges, now known as Hanging Rock Winery. Aren’t we all glad they did!!

The R.G.A.E. range is where curiosity leads the way. Each wine begins with a parcel that sparks a question for our Winemaker, Rob Ellis — a chance to experiment with different techniques and discover new ways to express exceptional fruit. Paired with his sister, Ruth’s unique label designs, these small-batch wines are some of our most personal releases.
