JEWMA ❤️ CONQUER THE CORRUGATIONS
JEWMA Catering had the absolute pleasure of joining the incredible crew from Conquer the Corrugations - East Arnhem from Friday afternoon right through until this morning.
And what an absolute ripper of a weekend it was! ❤️
We were bloody proud to be there supporting and celebrating the MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WALK — an event that is about so much more than simply putting one foot in front of the other.
Conquer the Corrugations strives to raise awareness of the “corrugations” we all experience throughout life, support and remember those affected by mental health challenges, and most importantly, help remove the stigma that still surrounds mental health.
HOW IT ALL BEGAN
The original Conquer the Corrugations event began in Cape York, Far North Queensland, in 2015, after the Jackson family lost 18-year-old Dillon Jackson to su***de.
Determined that Dillon would never be forgotten, and wanting to break the stigma surrounding mental health, the Jackson family — together with the ever-growing Conquer Crew family — have continued the event year after year.
What began with a couple of dozen friends and family has grown into an incredible annual Cape York adventure, with up to 250 people taking on the gruelling slog.
And almost every person taking part has been touched by mental health in some way.
Everyone is walking for someone.
Someone they love.
Someone they have lost.
Someone they are supporting.
Or perhaps, themselves.
FROM LITTLE COGS TO ONE BIG MACHINE
Since the East Arnhem event began in 2023, the Big Cog and all her little Cogs have continued to grow into something bloody special.
What started as a small group of people has developed into an amazing community of legends, volunteers, supporters and participants who are all helping keep the message moving forward.
And that’s what it’s really about.
Starting conversations.
Checking in on your mates.
Remembering those we’ve lost.
Supporting those doing it tough.
And reminding everyone that nobody has to tackle their corrugations alone.
A massive THANK YOU to the entire Conquer Crew, every single volunteer who put in the hard yards behind the scenes, everyone who sponsored the event, and every bloody legend who turned up and took part.
JEWMA Catering feels bloody privileged to have been a small part of it.
One of the major successes for us as a family is having our 3 kids all complete the event for a second year in a row!
Walking 28 KM over two days in mid to high 20 degrees, doing with groups of people they’ve never met, but also lots of others they know… while doing it at their own pace all with a smile on their faces at each and every stop!!!
All while mum and dad were doing what they love, helping provide snacks and some delicious tucker to the hungry walkers and crew!
What an absolutely wonderful event, with an even more important message.
Until next time, Conquer Crew. ❤️
Keep talking.
Keep checking in.
Keep showing up.
Because sometimes the biggest thing you can do for someone is simply let them know they’re not travelling the corrugations alone.
