There’s only one reason why you can buy cheap ‘honey’ at the supermarket - it’s likely not to be real honey. By real honey we mean unadulterated - not mixed with corn syrup, no sugar syrup added, no other foreign substances added.

There are some honest Australian companies that sell their honey through the Colesworths but we do wonder what measly price they’re getting.

We can’t compete with the cheap supermarket prices and we don’t try to because not all ‘honey’ is honey.

We only do pure raw real honey that’s straight from the hive, lightly filtered and bottled as is.

We encourage you to buy from local beekeepers.

Australian beekeepers are funding their own investigation into the authenticity of imported honey, with tests showing other products are being added.

Insights into a hive
- at the top of the frame you can see the white cells which are ripened honey covered with a fine layer of wax to enable the honey to be stored until needed
- the glistening cells underneath contain diluted honey (from nectar) in which bees reduce the moisture content by fanning and ripens into honey
- the coloured cells are pollen from a range of different flowers which is an essential source of fat and protein for bees. It's also mixed with honey to make bee bread.

Buyer beware - not all honey is equal

We appreciate that supermarket honey can be more affordable and we understand that affordable honey is better than none.

We recently saw this honey contains a percentage of imported honey as well as Australian honey. What is doesn't tell you is the percentage - is it 90% imported or only 10%? Who knows.

Australian honey is the best in the world so there's only one reason to import foreign honey - price!!!

Know what you're buying and consuming.

We encourage you to support Australian beekeepers and buy Australian honey. Even better - buy local honey!!
