“The Arbois appellation owes much to Domaine Rolet.” La Revue du Vin de France

Few regions offer more intrigue than the Jura. Set in the foothills of the Alps in eastern France, it is a place of singular grapes, singular styles and a w**emaking tradition unlike any other.

On Tuesday 13 October, we welcome Cédric Ducoté, General Manager of Domaine Rolet, to Le Pont Milsons Point. Founded in 1942, Rolet is one of the Jura’s historic benchmark estates, with 65 hectares across Arbois, Côtes du Jura, L’Étoile and Château-Chalon. Since Cédric’s arrival in 2018, the domaine has entered a new chapter, with organic viticulture and increasingly precise w**emaking that honours its traditional identity.

Cédric will guide us through nine w**es, from Poulsard, Trousseau and Chardonnay to oxidative Savagnin, culminating in the Château-Chalon 2013 and the Arbois Vin Jaune 2016.

What great fun pitting some of the greats of Australian Chardonnay against each other and other benchmarks. Thanks to all who joined us last night for a memorable tasting!

The main takeaways?

It’s no throw away or exaggeration to say that the best Chardonnay in Oz (and NZ) is easily world class. All w**es were extremely well balanced, flavoursome and displayed a deft touch in the cellar.

It’s pretty clear we are entering a golden age with the variety. Many of the top producers some with the luxury of time, some less so (which is even more impressive!) have polished their style and élevage to make w**es that are flavoursome and extremely refined. None were out of place against their peers and Burgundian counterparts.

It was noted you could likely replace the Australian contingent with a completely different set of w**es and possibly achieve the same result - next time, haha!

Elanto Vineyard - one of the most ambitious and exciting projects in Australian w**e for sure. Will be great to watch the evolution over the coming years

Bessin-Tremblay: fair to say we’ve loved these w**es since first sight. It’s hard not to agree with some of the cognoscenti who place them in the same rarified air as Raveneau and Dauvissat when you taste a w**e like the Valmur 2023; simply magical w**e and not the monolith this vineyard can sometimes produce. Just lovely and already open for business.

Join us for a special evening with Jen Parr, one of New Zealand’s leading voices in Pinot Noir and the talented w**emaker at the helm of Valli W**e. Valli has built an enviable reputation for crafting expressive, site-driven w**es from across Central Otago. Jen has helped shape the Valli w**es alongside founder Grant Taylor since joining the estate in 2015.

This exclusive tasting will showcase a selection of Valli’s celebrated single-vineyard Pinot Noirs as well as a number of their exciting whites, highlighting the distinct character and nuances of each subregion and vintage.
