There will never be a better time to support local! Many of our farmers, fruit orchards, vineyards and producers were badly impacted by yesterdays storm ⛈️

If you do one thing this weekend, show your support by visiting a farmers market and shopping local, thank you!

We're Back and We Have Something New!
After the shutdown and then restrictions on the sale of food and beverages to consume on site, we have had a forced holiday from the market.

This week, we are back and we also have something new on offer, preserved lemons! If you have never tried these, they add a real citrus jolt to all sorts of dishes. They are commonly used in Middle-Eastern and Mediterranean cuisine and are delicious also when baking chicken. You cut away the flesh of the lemon and use the skin, which sounds counter-intuitive but is delicious.

I will have a recipe for one of my favourite dishes that uses preserved lemons at my stall tomorrow, so drop by and grab a bottle and a copy of my Oven Baked Harissa Spiced Chicken (originally Quail but adapted for ease of use) with a Rocket, Preserved Lemon and Fennel Salad.

Like all our products, we do not use anything artificial in our preserved lemons, just lemons (grown by my Dad here in the Barossa), natural sea salt and water. That's it!

For those who like to grab a healthy breakfast at the market, unfortunately we still can't sell foods to consume on-site, but you can grab yourself a bag of granola or museli to take home and enjoy 😊

See you Barossa Farmers Market tomorrow (Sat 14 Aug) from 7.30-11.30 am. (Masks required indoors)

Q: What do you get when you combine these delicious ingredients?

A: Pear, Ginger and Cardamon Porridge as a warm and healthy breakfast option at the Barossa Farmers Market 😋. It is served with a dollop of honey-yoghurt and a sprinkle of our chai spiced granola with dried pear for a bit of crunch.

For those who need their weekly fix of our granola or muesli to enjoy at home during the week, you may want to grab a bit extra at tomorrow's market as next week (Sat 26 June) we are having a short family holiday and won't be back at the market until 3 July.

See you tomorrow from 7.30am-11.30am at the Market Shed, you will find us near the Coffee Bar.

Winter’s here, so are our new porridge bowls 😋

As the weather cools down, we all want something warm to get us going in the morning. Now you can grab a bowl of deliciously warming porridge if you are looking for a healthy option for breakfast at the Barossa Farmers Market. This week I have ‘Carrot Cake’ Porridge which is made from locally grown, organic oats (Four Leaf Milling) and combined with Jersey milk (Jersey Fresh) apples, carrots, dates and sultanas to give you all the yummy flavours of a carrot cake, but In a healthy breakfast porridge. The bowl is topped with some Greek yoghurt mixed with local honey and a sprinkle of my honey-almond granola for some crunch. Find us near the coffee bar tomorrow and every Saturday from 7.30am-11.30am.

Healthy Breakfast Option at the Barossa Farmers Market

For those who prefer a healthier alternative, come try our locally made Granola and Museli options as part of our Healthy Breakfast Bowl offering. You can choose from either our original Honey Almond Granola with Dried Apricots, our Chai-Spiced Honey Almond Granola with Dried Pears or our Fruit, Nut and Seed Museli and team it up with our Greek-style natural yoghurt blended with local Barossa Honey and topped with your choice of either fresh fruit or a market fruit compote (this week's option is apple, peach and nectarine) plus a dollop of our homemade, unsweetened dark chocolate and almond butter. The granolas and muesli are all made from local ingredients including Four Leaf Milling locally grown, organic grains and seeds and Waechters Farm Produce dried fruits and honey. The granolas and muesli are also available in take-home bags, so you can enjoy them whenever you like 😋

Coming soon, thanks to my Dad's burgeoning lemon tree, I will also have some preserved lemons (and a few recipes to share to give you ideas on how to use them). They are absolutely delicious in stews and curries (middle-eastern style) and bring a citrus zest to anything you add them to. It takes about three weeks for them to be ready once they are brined, so I should have these available mid-June 🙂

See you tomorrow and every Saturday at the Barossa Farmers Market from 7.30am-11.30am at the Vintner's Shed, corner of Stockwell and Angaston Roads where you can also check out the amazing produce from some of my fellow stallholders to help you cook up an amazing feast of local, farm-fresh ingredients.

Nonna Italia's Cucina is transitioning to a new name and a new range of products. We will now be known as Bonfili's Barossan Kitchen, to better reflect the range of products we currently offer. When we started out, our focus was strongly on my husband's family recipes and Italian food heritage, but as things have changed over the past year and we have added other products that reflect my own food heritage and passions, we felt the old name didn't really fit anymore. We are now offering granolas, muesli and protein/bliss balls, and we have a range of other offerings on the way, including nut butters made from local almonds. We are also offering a healthy breakfast bowl option to enjoy at the Barossa Farmers Market of a Saturday morning. Our brekky bowls include honey yoghurt, your choice from our muesli or granola range, plus fresh fruit or a market fruit coulis/compote and a drizzle of my unsweetened dark couverture chocolate almond butter. You will find us beside my other stall, Tutti-Frutti Traditional Drinks, right near the Coffee Bar.

This week I have more of my very popular Chai-Spiced Honey Almond Granola with Dried Pears (get in early, it has sold out every week so far) as well as my Honey Almond Granola with Dried Apricots, Fruit, Nut and Seed Muesli and gluten-free Choc-Almond-Date Protein Balls with Chia Seed and Linseed. All my grains and seeds are organic (mostly from Four Leaf Milling at Tarlee) and are combined with locally grown and dried fruits and honey from Waechter's Farm Produce. I also have some frozen pasta sauces and lasagne, but we will not be offering fresh pasta or gnocchi anymore.
