Meet Alex Lees, our NSW State Manager! 💻👔
How long have you been with the company?
Almost 11 years.
Can you sum up your role in a couple of sentences?
I run Markwell’s NSW division, leading a team of account managers who sell Markwell’s products into the NSW Foodservice market. I look to create an enjoyable and supportive culture in which our people feel empowered to challenge themselves, grow in their roles, and achieve their potential.
What does a typical day look like?
It may include running a team meeting, devising customer sales plans, conversations and negotiations with customers, stock forecasting, and running through our P&Ls. There really is no such thing as a typical day though!
What do you like most about your job/working at Markwell Foods?
The fantastic NSW team I work alongside. We are fortunate to have some of the best operators in the industry, and I am continually inspired by their passion, expertise, and commitment.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Spending time with family and friends, keeping fit, and walking our three dogs.
Do you have a memorable moment or lesson learned from your experience that has shaped your approach to your current role?
The very sudden passing of a close team member and the challenges that followed taught me a great deal about leading through a crisis, building resilience, and not sweating the small stuff.
What do you think sets Markwell Foods apart in the competitive landscape of Australia?
The large variety of products in the range and the fact we are not too big, which allows us to pivot quickly when necessary.
How do you stay up to date on industry trends, challenges and opportunities, and how does this knowledge inform your approach to serving our diverse set of customers?
Through conversations with colleagues, customers, suppliers, and logistics partners we can make plans to best serve our customers.
If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be and what Markwell Foods products would you serve?
The two GOATs – Lionel Messi and Diego Maradona. I would serve Big Country Skin-on fries and Onion Rings to accompany a traditional Argentine Asado.
