BACK COUNTRY CUISINE ADVENTURE //

"We spontaneously decided to spend the weekend in the mountains with a few sunny but very windy days ahead. We packed our bags and the bikes in the car and headed into Mt Aspiring National Park late in the afternoon.

It was super windy on the bike into Aspiring Hut, where we pitched the tent and fended off 15 Kea!!!! The next morning, we stashed the bikes and continued the tramp up to French Ridge.

We were the first ones up and had the tops to ourselves for a few hours. We found a flattish campsite with a full 360 view of the mountains and set up for the night.

A few Kea joined us for dinner; luckily, they weren't too interested in our tent. We watched the most incredible sunset over the glacier before heading in for the night.

The next morning was pretty windy and a bit wet, so we packed down our gear to head back down into the valley. After a few hours of some tree root scrambling, we were back on the bikes with the wind behind us, this time making light work of the trail back to the car."

"Last week, I completed my Abel Tasman trip, and honestly, it felt like a proper holiday from start to finish. The weather turned it on every single day, which made such a difference to the whole experience.

I ended up swimming pretty much daily: the water was too good to resist and the coastal views were absolutely unreal the entire way.

It wasn’t completely pain-free, though… I got a pretty bad case of blisters, which definitely slowed me down at times. Thankfully, my Teva sandals came in clutch and saved my feet for most of the trip.

One of the best parts was the people. I met so many awesome humans from all over New Zealand and different parts of the world, which made the huts and track feel really social and fun.

Now that I’m home, I genuinely miss it. I’d go back and do the whole thing again in a heartbeat."

Asking for a friend… how old is that meal sitting at the bottom of your pack? 👀

Good news: our meals have a best-before date of 4 years, so chances are you're still good to go! We've done the advanced shelf-life testing so you don't have to, and while flavour starts to fade a little after 5 years, they're still safe to eat.
