With the days getting shorter and nights colder, it's certainly red wine weather, and one of my go-to varieties is Nebbiolo from Italy.

Orlando Abrigo is a producer I've imported to Perth many times, and their 2017 Barbeaesco Meruzzano is drinking beautifully now.

With its high tannins, high acidity & complex, spicy tar & roses profile, this is a great wine for the winter dinner table.

It's International Viognier Day✨

Lovers of Chardonnay: this is one for you to try!

Viognier (vee-own-yay) is a rich, aromatic, full-bodied white wine known for its opulent stone fruit and floral aromas and oily texture.

🍷It reaches its greatest heights in the Northern Rhone Valley in France, where the tiny appellation of Condrieu produces the world's finest examples. These are often fermented and matured in oak barrels, and live for decades in the cellar.

🍷You'll also find Viognier blended into Cotes-du-Rhone white wines, and Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc, giving body, texture and aromatics.

🍷In Australia, the grape was pioneered by Yalumba and thrives in South Australia, although producers like By Farr in Geelong make one of the countries finest examples every year.

We're a proud Italian family, so of course we have a wide range of Italian wines in our stores. We regularly travel to Italy to visit wineries, taste hundreds of wines, and choose great value options to bring into our stores.

There are so many excellent producers in Italy that just don't get widely exported, and there's bargains out there waiting to be found.

Here's a few red wines from our Italian shelves that are perfect coming into the cooler months ahead!

🍷Contesa Montepulciano d'Abruzzo - Not to be confused with the town of Montepulciano in Tuscany, it's the name of the grape variety. These wines have been getting some attention in Australia recently for their richly concentrated dark fruit & smooth rounded tannins

🍷Orlando Abrigo Barbera d'Alba - Barbera is the wine that the Piedmont locals drinks, while waiting for their Barolo to mature. Drinks well early but can also take some age, it's hallmark high acidity and low tannins make it highly appealing alongside tomato-based pasta dishes.

🍷Araldica Barbaresco Corsini - From the outstanding 2015 vintage, this has now had a decade to mature and develop tertiary flavours and aromas. Nebbiolo like this pairs well with slow cooked beef and lamb.

🍷Abbazia Barolo - A bold and expressive Barolo with strong tannins, high acidity, with sour cherry and spices. Known as the king of wines, Barolo is 100% Nebbiolo from Piedmont in north-west Italy. These wines can age effortlessly for decades.

"I'm a big fan of Central Otago Pinot Noir and am always looking out for new small producers to try. This bottle of 2022 High Garden Vineyard has opened my eyes to the Gibbston sub-region and all the complexity and nuances that great Pinot Noir can deliver. It's got fragrant cherry and strawberry with roses, black tea & wild thyme. The palate is weightless yet ultra-concentrated and powerful with old-world tannin structure and great length. Probably the best bottle of wine I've drunk so far in 2026"

Highway To Haze by Margaret River Beer Co. has landed at Grand Cru!

Created in collaboration with 8 Waves and South West Beer Fest, this Hazy Pale is a proper tribute to the South West, full of juicy flavour and smooth, easy-drinking character.

Expect bright mandarin and orange peel up front, layered with soft vanilla and peaches-and-cream sweetness, while the nose brings golden syrup, mango nectar and fresh orange juice.

Full-bodied, hazy and built to savour, this is one worth getting around.

The Hugel family winery was founded in 1639 and is still family owned and operated today - nearly 400 years of winemaking knowledge! One of their best value wines is the Gentil white blend - comprising of Gewurztraminer Pinot Gris, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Sylvaner & Muscat.
