💙 CHILD PROTECTION WEEK 💙
This week is Child Protection Week, and for Rhi & Opy’s Sweet Delights, it has a very special meaning.
Before Rhi was five years old, she had already experienced more instability than any little child should ever have to understand.
Then she found her forever home. ❤️
Her journey since then hasn’t been easy. There have been disabilities, significant health challenges, a cardiac arrest and acquired brain injury, and many moments when life has looked very different from what anyone imagined for her.
But there has also been something incredibly important:
People who stayed.
People who believed in her.
People who saw Rhi not just her disability, her trauma or the things she couldn’t do.
Today, at 18, Rhi is the inspiration behind Rhi & Opy’s Sweet Delights, an organisation being built around inclusion, belonging and creating meaningful opportunities for people with disability.
Because protecting children isn’t only about keeping them safe today.
It is about giving them the safety, stability, relationships and opportunities they need to have a future.
Every child deserves to feel safe.
Every child deserves to belong.
Every child deserves someone in their corner.
And every child deserves the opportunity to become the person they were meant to be. 💗
This Child Protection Week, we celebrate Rhi and every child and young person who has experienced out of home care and the carers, families, workers and communities who choose to show up, advocate and stay.
Sometimes one safe, consistent person can change the entire direction of a child’s life.
And sometimes that little child grows up and creates something pretty incredible. 🍭🐾💗
