How do you tell the food story of a region that covers almost one fifth of Western Australia? You start at the coast 💚

Follow it from Green Head to Kalbarri, through Geraldton and out to the Houtman Abrolhos Islands, then head inland through farming country and some of WA’s spectacular wildflower landscapes.

Along the way, the food changes with it.

You’ll find grapes and olives, rockmelon, tomatoes, cucumbers and spinach growing on the land, while just offshore, the Mid West’s fishing industry brings another side of the region’s story to the table.

It’s an enormous part of WA, connected by the growers, fishers, makers and local businesses who know this landscape—and what it can produce—better than anyone.

Our latest Regional Spotlight takes you through the Mid West, from what grows there to some of the Buy West Eat Best members calling the region home.

And next time you’re shopping, eating out or travelling through the Mid West, look for the distinctive Buy West Eat Best bitemark logo and choose local where you can 💚

The September Seasonal Shopping Guide is here 💚

Spring is starting to show up across WA, bringing plenty of fresh colour, crisp flavours and local goodness to the table.

In the Noongar six seasons, September still sits within Djilba, a transitional time marked by cooler mornings, bursts of sunshine and the clear signs of new growth as the seasons begin to change.

It is a great time to enjoy the best of both worlds: the last of some cooler-weather favourites alongside a fresh wave of spring produce that works beautifully in salads, lunchboxes, roasts, sides and easy midweek meals.

This month, look out for WA-grown:

🍓 Strawberries and berries
🍊 Grapefruit, lemons, mandarins and oranges
🥭 Mango
🍐 Apples and pears
🥑 Avocado
🍈 Honeydew
🌱 Asparagus and artichokes
🥦 Broccoli, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts
🥬 Lettuce, kale, silverbeet, cabbage and Chinese vegetables
🫛 Beans
🌽 Sweet corn
🍅 Tomatoes
🥒 Cucumber and zucchini
🫑 Capsicum
🥕 Carrots
🥔 Potatoes
🧅 Leeks and onions
🍆 Eggplant
…and more local goodness!

Whether you are shopping for family meals, planning menus, stocking shelves or simply trying to eat more seasonally, choosing WA-grown helps support local growers, fishers, producers and businesses right across the State.

Save this guide for your next shop and look for the distinctive Buy West Eat Best bitemark logo when you choose local 💚

Regional Spotlight: Gascoyne 💚

From red earth and river country to turquoise waters and open skies, the Gascoyne is one of WA’s most distinctive food-producing regions.

Stretching across towns and communities including Carnarvon, Exmouth, Coral Bay, Denham, Shark Bay and surrounds, the region is home to incredible growers, fishers, farmers, producers and food businesses.

It is a region known for bananas, mangoes, tomatoes, capsicum, melons, grapes and citrus, alongside seafood, pastoral products and food experiences that connect people with the place behind every bite.

The Gascoyne’s food story is shaped by land and sea, from fertile plantations around the Gascoyne River to pristine coastline, red dirt, open stations and the communities who make it all possible.

When you choose WA-grown, WA-made and WA-caught, you are supporting the people and places behind our State’s food and drink.

Save this post, explore the Gascoyne and look for the distinctive Buy West Eat Best bitemark logo when you choose local 💚
