Celebrating 100 years of Stanford Merthyr Infants School.

The students didn't recognise their cooking teachers in our old fashioned cooking uniform. A big shoutout to Farmer Nat for her excellent sewing skills! A fun day serving lamingtons and tea.

Those little yellow balls on the bees back legs are balls of pollen in their pollen baskets. These baskets are specialised hairs which they use to carry pollen from the flowers back to the hive.

We feel very lucky to be able to do a job which we truly believe is making a positive contribution to the world. This sort of feedback makes all the hard work, and there has been a lot, all worth it. Thank you to all the schools, day cares, OOSHES and families who have visited us over the years. We are very proud of what we have achieved so far and with more to come

Free plants! You’ve gotta love volunteer veg seedlings. By allowing some plants to go to seed and drop on the ground you’ll get germination of those seeds when the conditions are right. My garden is full of volunteer tomatoes, lettuce and even leeks. They even grow in the paths! Not only is it no work, the seeds which grow are adapted to your local climate and soil which means healthier plants. With the current warm weather, surely there is a bunch of tomatoes growing in peoples’ compost?

Were you a kid which loved learning but hated the classroom? Yep, me too. I believe that the most powerful learning experiences are authentic, meaningful and hands on. This is my all time favourite science experiment. 'The Changing River'. We explore the current state of our Hunter River, imagine the historical condition before creating a replica to show how and why it has changed. Sounds like fun?
