Sunnyside Lane Organics Organically Produced Veggies We supply our local area and a network of friends and workmates.

We have a small market garden producing organic produce (non certified but we're thinking about it) on our property in Willow Vale, QLD. We aim for a balanced healthy soil full of the necessary microbes to produce awesome tasting veggies without artificial fertilisers or dangerous pesticides.

Itโ€™s a busy time in the garden ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŒพ

The mulberry tree fruited for a few weeks and just like that theres no fruit again.

We have been making asian salads, tomatoe salads, beetroot salad, mulberry pie and jam.

We are also working on improving the look of our blue tubs with metal sheeting I found on the property.

๐Ÿ’šAsparagus๐Ÿ’š

Finally planted our asparagus seedlings in the blue containers! Over the last month we have been filling these containers with logs, sticks, mulch, kitchen scraps, compost, dead fish (thanks Jocke) and topped up with premium garden soil. I think the plants will be happy for a while ๐Ÿ˜Š
In the meantime we have planted snow peas, apple cucumber and lettuce. We also got two varieties of eggplant to try.

All this gardening has attracted a-lot of bird life, from nesting birds to Tawny frog mouth. Itโ€™s lovely to see all the birds and bees enjoying the garden as much as we do ๐Ÿ’›

Garden update ๐Ÿค—

The lettuce, rocket and bok choy have gone to seed, they should hopefully re-seed throughout the garden. Strawberries and mulberries are coming into season. A few blue berries ripening.
Looking forward to more beetroot and soon the chinese cabbage.
The chickens are laying too many eggs for us to eat!
We did alot of work in the garden this weekend ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ planted out seedlings, shovelled dirt, filled tubes, rejuvenated some garden beds, weeding. I will share those photos on a separate post ๐Ÿ˜Š

The asparagus seeds we planted have sprouted and they are looking good. The current plan is to fill up the blue containers we received (for free) with all the rubbish I have collected around the yard and top up with soil.

It will take 2-3 years before we can harvest the spears, but im looking forward to seeing how they grow! And ill be more excited when we can finally harvest ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

After being inspired by the coles wrap packet! I decided to give it a try since we have plenty of pumpkins and beetroot large enough to harvest.

Roasted pumpkin and beetroot
Rocket
Feta
Also goes well with baked chicken.

In the garden we are focusing our energy on establising fresh herbs and vegies to reduce our grocery bill and use in cooking.

Whats growing well in our garden?
Cos lettuce ๐Ÿฅฌ
Beetroot
Spring onion
Mustard
Spinach
Rocket
Herbs
Flowers ๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒธ๐ŸŒผ
Passionfruit - covering the water tank.
Strawberries ๐Ÿ“
Chilli
Pumpkin

The tomatoes and capsicum are struggling, maybe due to too much rain recently. The tomatoes are falling off before ripe so we ripen them on the bench before dehydrating to use in salads and sandwiches.

In the seedling trays we have started leak, celery & chinese cabbage. The choy varieties arenโ€™t sprouting yet, neither is the tomatoe so we have moved them to a warmer spot in the house.

Ive also planted asparagus seeds, stay tuned to how they are going. Asparagus takes 2-3 years to establish until you can harvest! Looking to get some IBC tanks as planter boxes to transfer them into.

The curry leaf tree planted a few years ago is now over 2m tall! Itโ€™s also reseeding in the soil below. We have potted many baby curry leaf trees to give away to friends and neighbours!

They crisp up like chips when cooked in butter on a hot frying pan, served with freshly sliced tomatoes ๐Ÿ…
Or I prefer to dry them and add to curries and stirfrys for extra flavour ๐Ÿ˜‹
Anyone else like cooking with curry leaf? Iโ€™d love to know what your favourite recipes are!
