In one of the creeks on the additional block there's a spot where every year we see the green leaves from some type of bulb plant growing. This year, for the first time, we've seen it in full flower enabling us to have a go at identifying it.
Here's a photo taken this morning. Seems it's a "Chasmanthe aethiopica" (Small Cobra lily) ... native to South Africa ... and commonly found "mainly in clay soils, from Darling just north of Cape Town, along the coast as far east as Kentani in the Eastern Cape."
Post Script: Our thanks go to Richard B who in the comments has clarified that the correct species is Chasmanthe floribunda, African Cornflag. Awesome to have this type of feedback/input.

We were surprised to find this egg on hard bare open ground about 30 cm from the water's edge of the Duck Dam today. Our 'best guess' is that it was from a Grey Teal ... but welcome other thoughts. Yes ... we did leave it where we found it.

Here's our latest addition to the technology suite here on the farm ... a remote monitoring device that will allow us to keep close tabs on how full and how fast the flow is from our main stock water tank.

Courtesy yesterday's 30 mm rainfall the Heron Dam level is about 100 mm above the drainage sump ... meaning that all of the inflow to the dam is flowing through the 150 mm drainage pipe. This short video gives a pretty good insight into the volume and speed of the flow. (Thanks for the video, John).
