On sundown yesterday (and for a while after) we enjoyed sitting by the fire we'd lit to clean up some fallen branches at the base of a large tree that were limiting stock access to shade. After sunset it became evident that the firelight was illuminating some nearby dead pine trees ... and the attached photo gives an insight into what we witnessed.

We sold some weaners at today's Store Cattle sale at Forbes. Their condition was excellent ... and prices were lifted somewhat by the presence of agents from Victoria who were on the return journey post the Dubbo sale earlier in the week.

This one of the 2 Oleanders presently flowering at the old homestead site that we now refer to as The Peppers. When you see these plants in full flower it's not hard to understand why many early settler families planted them near their homes. Hardy and covered in blooms.

We achieved a key milestone yesterday with the reestablishment of the gravity fed line from the main (Herron) dam to the house for garden and toilet water. It's been quite a project for us - more than doubling the capacity and depth of the dam addressing some erosion issues and further enhancing farm resilience.
There are 4 people we want to specifically thank for their considerable contributions - each of whom we hold in the highest regard for their amazing expertise and dedication: Phil Wells (ex Cootamundra) for developing the design over 20 years ago, Stephen Johnstone (Young) for the dozer work, Alan Brown for the excavator work and Glenn Gault for the trenching and pipe laying.
The project kicked off seriously in November 2025 ... and we very fortunate to experience a 100 mm+ rainfall event at the start of this month filling the dam to about 1/3 of its capacity.

Well spotted this morning while we were cutting fire wood. Does anyone know what species this insect is?

Every now and then we come across the most unusual of things. Here's one from yesterday. A horn growing out the back leg of a sheep. Yep. Pretty weird, folks.
