Do you remember the first wine you drank? 🍷
Our winemaker Duane certainly does, and after hearing it, it's no surprise why the memory has stuck around for so long. Buckle up for Duane's 'disaster' of a first wine story!
"My first wine experience was a disaster. It was for the sole purpose of impressing a girl behind a church in a small country town named Moe.
There was a cask on a table inside the Church hall, I had to tell an adult that I was getting the glass for my Mum, who was a teetotaler!!
It was in a clear plastic cup and we were chatting at the back of the church, away from prying eyes and my menacing brother who picked up the scent that I like this girl and was doing everything possible to derail any further progress.
I don't remember what the conversation was about, I tried to look like a fully fledged adult and took a sip of the wine mid sentence from the young lady only to have my sense of smell and taste accosted by this awful, sweet and sour liquid.
Unfortunately my first reaction should have been to swallow and politely empty the remaining offending liquid onto the ground, but I was so offended that I coughed and spat it all over the poor young lady.
Hence to say one brother was mortified as well as I young lady and one brother was very chuffed on the drive home!
It was a long time between drinks after that experience."
Luckily Duane wasn't too traumatised by his experience, these days he's an important part of the team at Glandore and developed quite the taste for wine.
Here's what he had to say when asked about his current favourite wine. 🍾
"Barbaresco would be my go to, really approachable as a young wine with beautiful aromatics but can live in the cellar for a long time, just like the one in the Photo. Also helps that my wife loves Barbaresco as well, or does it?"
