Mount Pleasant Wines An icon over 100 years in the making. It was by the light of a gas lantern, the story of Mount Pleasant was created. Mount Pleasant Promotes Responsible Drinking

It was 1921 and Maurice O’Shea wasn’t afforded the luxury of electricity. Equipped only with the basic tools of a petrol driven crusher, hand pumps, an old basket press and a concrete tank, O’Shea brought Mount Pleasant to life. More than 90 years on, the equipment and names have evolved, but the principles and the vineyards remain the same. As does Mount Pleasant’s philosophy of honouring O’Shea’

s legacy through individual wines, special sites and celebrated styles. Our page is a place to enjoy the Mount Pleasant experience. Some posts or content may not be ok to share here, so here are some guidelines:

The team are busy handpicking our Rosehill '1946 Vines' Shiraz this morning, before heading to Old Hill tomorrow.

Originally planted by Maurice O’Shea, these rows are a significant piece of Hunter Valley history, rooted in rare volcanic soils with a unique North-Easterly aspect. To capture the true signature of the site, our winemaking remains focused and precise. All three blocks planted in 1946 are handpicked and fermented separately, before pressing to tank and then transferred to large format French oak barrels.

"The fruit coming off the 1946 blocks this morning looks incredible, the balance and concentration are exactly what we look for from this site. It’s early days in the cellar, but I’m incredibly excited about what the 2026 vintage will become." - Adrian Sparks, Chief Winemaker.

An exciting start to vintage this past week as we began handpicking pinot noir from Mothervine. One of Australia’s oldest pinot noir vineyards, planted in 1921 by Maurice O’Shea, these remarkable old vines are home to the MV6 clone, now found throughout many of Australia’s greatest pinot noir regions.

Carefully tended by hand, Mothervine continues to deliver fruit with depth and structure, a true piece of Australian wine history.

“The conditions leading into vintage have been exceptional, and it’s shaping up to be another outstanding year for our pinot.”
— Belinda, Vineyard Manager
