Duke's Vineyard is an award-winning vineyard in the cool climate Great Southern wine region of Western Australia, known for producing dry Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. In 1999 — starting on his 60th birthday — Duke planted the 25 acres of vines himself by hand. The first vintage in 2001 resulted in a gold medal and in 2019, he received 99 points and the James Halliday Wine of the Year A
ward for his 2017 Magpie Hill Riesling, a first for an Australian Riesling and the highest pointed white wine ever. The vineyard is a unique site that sits at the foot of the ancient granite Porongurup peaks, characterised by warm ripening days and cooler nights tempered with maritime breezes. The tasting room/cellar door was designed by Hilde, Duke’s artist wife, and is a perfect spot to take in the spectacular views of the Stirling and Porongurup Ranges while sipping on the latest wine releases. A small gallery features exhibitions of artists who contribute to the Duke’s brand and story as well as some of Hilde’s original flora and fauna drawings. When Duke retired at 82 in April 2022, winemaker Ben Cane and his film/media/special events producer partner Sarah Date took over the property and brand. Their vision is to guide the existing premium wines to exciting new heights and add Pinot Noir and Chardonnay to the portfolio with additional plantings to occur in 2024 together with Riesling. Future plans include launching a wine club and introducing Duke's beautiful wines in very limited quantities to the USA, UK and Singapore markets.
