True sustainability requires constant action, even in the middle of the night. To wrap up the 25/26 season our June nine-night fishing run, the Spencer Gulf Prawn Fishery team put real-time management into overdrive. Our process included strategy meetings, precise stock surveys, and data-driven management meetings via zoom to establish closure lines. Once out on the water, the real work intensified. Representing the fleet, eight of our skippers met at sea at 3:00 AM every night to monitor conditions. They made eight tactical amendments to our fishing strategy in response to real-time data.Every single decision focused on three non-negotiable goals: 1. Protecting juvenile prawns to secure future harvests. 2. Keeping our hardworking crew safe by avoiding rough weather. 3. Closing fishing grounds early enough to leave stocks for next season.This level of dedication is why the Spencer Gulf Prawn Fishery is recognized globally for responsible, wild fishery management. We manage our waters with the future in mind, which is why our prawns taste so spectacular.
