Our focus is on Docility - Structure - Longevity - Feed Efficiency
Formerly Willsbro Angus (established in 1986), Morton Estate Angus cattle are grass reared to grow naturally, with longevity being at the forefront of our program. We also believe temperament and correct structure are of utmost importance for breeding functional sound cattle. Our bulls are easy to handle on foot or with quad bike,

they are fit and ready for work. Going on 40 years now of breeding grass fed bulls has proven to produce a stronger animal that is productive for many more years than the breed industry average of less than 3 years working life. Many Morton Estate bulls are still actively breeding at 10 years of age. We have always had a focus on Feed Efficiency with the majority of our cow herd above average for this trait.

SELECT AGAINST, NOT FOR
Nature doesn’t reward extremes—it rewards balance.

Selection is often more about what you breed away from than what you breed for.

Don’t select for maximum growth.
Select against animals that cannot grow efficiently on your environment.

Don’t select for low calving weight.
Select against excessively large calves.

Don’t select for the highest milk production.
Select against cows that cannot wean decent calves

Don’t select for backfat.
Select against animals with inadequate fat.

Don’t select for large frame.
Select against animals that require more feed than your veld can provide.

Nature doesn’t reward extremes—it rewards balance.

The most profitable cow is seldom the one with the highest EBVs. It’s the one that survives, breeds back every year, and raises a good calf under the same conditions where her daughters will have to perform.

Perhaps the best breeding question isn’t, “What should I add?” but rather, “What should I eliminate?”

Selection for moderation and balanced traits certainly pays off when conditions are tough.
These 2 year old registered heifers will be calving in 5-6 weeks time and they are holding up well in the current drought.

Most producers think about feed efficiency in the feedlot, which makes sense. We need cattle on feed to convert.

But efficient cows matter just as much. Maybe even more, given that most ranchers are working with a set number of acres, and feed is often the biggest expense.

An efficient cow:
- Maintains condition on less feed
- Recovers faster after calving
- Weans a heavier calf without extra inputs (read: feed)
- Costs less to keep year after year
- Doesn’t keep you up at night worrying about her

If you're operating on tight forage or managing input costs (and who isn’t?), cow efficiency is a profit lever you can't afford to ignore. It's heritable and we measure it and track it, so it's built into our indexes.

That means you don't have to guess or sacrifice on other traits for efficiency.

If you’re looking for sires that will inject efficiency into your cow herd, check out our Private Treaty offering at leachman.com/sales

Only 45% of extremely over-conditioned bulls pass their breeding soundness exam, compared to 81% of bulls with just adequate body condition. Too much fat impairs production of testosterone and interferes with s***matogenesis. There will be more abnormalities in his s***m.

In 2026, we proudly celebrate 40 years of breeding registered Angus cattle. Our journey began in 1986 as Willsbro Angus, then in 1996 we downsized due to ill health however we continued to maintain a high-quality herd focused on elite genetics.

Throughout four decades, our philosophy has remained constant: breeding easy-keeping cattle with an uncompromising emphasis on temperament, structure, calving ease, and feed efficiency.

Now based in Binnaway, NSW, our cattle will be proven on lower-rainfall, unimproved pasture country. This environment serves as the ultimate test of their doing ability, ensuring our genetics continue to perform for our clients in any conditions.
