MEET CIRCULUS – PART 03 | OUR PLACE

There is no Circulus without Coatsworth Farm.

Our vineyard sits on an ancient seabed on Victoria’s Bellarine Peninsula, surrounded by water on all sides – Bass Strait, Port Phillip Bay and Corio Bay.

The persistent cool maritime breezes help lengthen our growing season while reducing frost and disease pressure.

But beyond the climate and the soil, it’s simply a beautiful, windswept place to grow grapes.

And that’s what we’re trying to capture in our w**es.

Not somewhere else.

Here.

A welcome little visitor in the vineyard 🐝

Today we spotted this swarm of bees taking a rest amongst the vines.

Swarming is a natural part of a honey bee colony’s life cycle, with the bees temporarily clustering while scout bees search for a new home.

Seeing bees thriving in the vineyard is a lovely sign of the biodiversity around us, and a reminder of the important role insects play in a healthy vineyard ecosystem.

Happy to host them for a little while on their journey. 🍇🐝

There are three stories behind our name.

PLACE.
Our vineyard sits over an ancient seabed, surrounded by water and influenced by the cool maritime breezes of Bass Strait, Port Phillip Bay and Corio Bay. We also sit halfway around the circular shape of Port Phillip Bay.

PHILOSOPHY.
We believe in giving more than we take – building healthy soils, conserving water, promoting biodiversity and working towards a more circular way of farming.

STORY.
After 30 years away from the vines, John returned to his first love: w**e.

MEET CIRCULUS – PART 01 | THE STORY

Some stories take a lifetime to come full circle.

For John, a childhood surrounded by the vineyards and cellars of South Australia sparked a passion for w**e.

After enrolling in oenology, life took him in another direction – and for more than 30 years, w**e remained a passion rather than a profession.

Then, in 2020, a health scare stopped John in his tracks – and made him reflect on what really mattered.

A simple question from Kim – “What do you wish to do, that you haven’t done yet?” – brought a long-held dream back into focus.

Six months later, John and Kim became custodians of Coatsworth Farm.

And Circulus began.

A passion reignited. A leap of faith. A return to the vines.

This is where our story starts. 🍷

We’re a small, family-operated vineyard on Victoria’s Bellarine Peninsula, making single-site, cool climate w**es by hand, in small batches.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll share more about our story, our name, our place and the philosophy behind what we do.

🚧 CELLAR DOOR UPDATE

We’re temporarily closed for construction.

Our new Cellar Door and w**ery are taking shape at the vineyard, so for now, our gates are closed while the build continues.

We’re hoping to welcome you back in November to enjoy Circulus w**es in our brand-new space, overlooking the vineyard.

We’ll be sharing plenty of updates as we get closer to opening - stay tuned.
