To say Rian & Kaz are proud of Jodes for getting this is an understatement! Jodi cares so much for our next generation that this topic was a heartfelt and natural fit. We cannot wait to learn from your experience!
Fair does not always mean equal, especially when it comes to handing over the farm.
Meet Jodi Duncan from Ravensthorpe, Western Australia, one of our 2027 Nuffield Scholars announced tonight in Darwin.
Jodi runs an 8,500 hectare mixed farm with her brother, and has spent more than a decade thinking about how farming businesses pass between generations. Where a family member has an intellectual or physical disability, that conversation carries another layer.
Her research, "Inter-generational farm business transfer: equity, equality and care", will take her to the United States, Canada, the Netherlands, Scandinavia and New Zealand to see how other operations handle entry, exit and long term care without undermining the farming business.
She wants outcomes that are financially stable and emotionally cohesive.
