Another batch of Coochie Pale Ale in the boiler today with a load of fresh hops going into the flameout. Last batch going into kegs Sunday followed by the Tipplers IPA next Friday. Wait is almost over Charlie…👍

Brew day… maxing out the system with a fresh batch of Tipplers IPA. A evolution, with a cleaner grain bill and a big dose of Simcoe hops to bitter, with Citra at the end to provide a burst of freshness. Every chance a couple of handfulls of whole hop cones directly off the vines will go into the whirlpool as well. 6.9% of goodness on its way. 🫡

Finishing off a successful Hefeweizen brew day. Changes to the mash schedule around the acid rest ie don’t have one, being really careful with the milling of the malt and not being too vigorous with stirring the mash seemed to have done the trick. I think direct electric element heating systems are not really suited to having lots of wheat in a recipe without compromises. Looking forward to trying this one and sharing it with friend of the brewery, Troy. 🍻

Sad update. The wort for the Hefeweizen has burnt yet again, so have had to pour out the lot… again. Different system, different mill .. same result. Ggrr.. maybe it’s me..am going to update the heating element to a low density one as the high level of protein and “flour” in Wheat malt can cause this issue as well as being really careful on milling the wheat next time , even if it reduces efficiency a little. Sorry Troy… we will get there soon.

Hefeweizen underway. A new recipe and the first time on the new system so keeping a close eye on this one. The AB NZ Pilsener brewed on Tuesday is bubbling nicely in the fermenter and should be ready in time for Christmas thirst quencher. With the Coochie Pale Ale, Tipplers IPA and the odd keg of Czech Black Lager floating around the next few weeks look pretty nice at Esplanade Brewing Co. Reckon it might be time for a tasting session soon.

After a break Esplanade Brewing is just about back on deck. Two new 200l fermenters have been added and the cooling is now a recirculating glycol loop with a Kyerer Chilly Max 45 doing the work. A new Nano 170l system is being trialled to help simplify the brew day tasks. Consistent availability and consistent quality is the goal of the all the changes.
