A halter doesn’t fit simply because you can get it onto your alpaca or llama’s head.
There are three important things to consider:
✔️ The type of halter: is it designed correctly for camelids? CAMELIDynamics Zephyr halters were designed specifically for alpacas and llamas, taking into account their unique head shape and sensitive nasal anatomy.
✔️ The fit: is it sitting correctly, without compressing the nasal cartilage, and allowing the animal to chew, breathe and feel comfortable?
✔️ How it is put on: are you fitting the halter calmly, using low-stress handling?
A correctly fitted halter lets us communicate clearly without unnecessary pressure. A poorly fitted one can move around, sit in the wrong place and make handling more difficult for both you and your animal.
Take a few moments to look at your halter before you start working. Is it sitting where it should? Is it adjusted for this particular animal? Remember that one size — or one adjustment — does not fit every alpaca or llama.
The halter is only one part of the picture. Good equipment works together with good handling skills.
