Whilst we haven’t been baking pies… we did have a bun in the oven. Our precious daughter Daisy was born last weekend. It’s been a busy week with an extended stay in hospital and learning to care for a newborn.

Pies are still coming back - just bear with us whilst we settle into our new family life.

I know it’s April Fools Today.. but this is no joke!!!!! We have secured a new pie kitchen in Prahran. We still have a way to go with permits and purchasing equipment but we’re getting closer. We never expected it would take us this long to get up and running again and it’s taken a huge toll on me mentally. Moving forward, I’m really excited to get back to doing what I love and can’t wait to start baking again. Stay tuned for more updates! PIES WILL BE BACK.

WTF is going on in Melbourne with all this crime????? My retail shop which is still closed due to the fire back in September in our kitchen, was broken into today.

I spent the day at the shop making a police report, waiting for detectives, dealing with insurance and waiting for a locksmith.

Big thank you to the lovely neighbour who called me first thing this morning to let me know what had happened and made the first call to police. We love our Richmond 3121 community!

Unfortunately, we don’t have an image to start a campaign like but we do believe in karma!

For now we’ll clean up the mess and get back to focusing on reopening - stay tuned!

Thank you everyone, we miss you guys! Gosh the last 5 weeks have been tough since the fire. Sorry we’ve been a bit quiet. It’s taken longer than expected to work out what to do and the next steps to get back to baking.

We hope to be open again within the next month and can’t wait to see you all again. We’ll continue to post updates here.

ARE YOU GUYS OPEN…?

Not yet…

Sorry everyone, we’ve been temporarily closed since the fire on 20 September that devastated our kitchen. We’re still working through the insurance process and trying to source the equipment we need to start baking again. It’s been a rough few weeks.

We’ve been blown away by everyone’s kindness and support from encouraging words, offers to help us get up and running and generous donations on our go fund me page. We can’t thank you all enough! It means the world to us!

We’ll continue to post updates here and hope to be back doing what we love soon 🥧

We’ve been through all of the emotions this past week. Still can’t believe everything is gone.

Thought I’d post a happier memory of the old shop when we were serving pies and cooking from there.

This week I’ve been looking for a new space to bake. I’ve received some really kind offers of temporary places to bake. I’m still searching for the right space. The pie operation requires a lot of specialty equipment (dough mixer, pastry sheeter, pie trays, industrial size pots and walk-in fridge freezer space). There’s also logistics of transport and storage at the new shop to work out as our kitchen and cafe were next door to each other on Burnley St so we were wheeling the pies from the kitchen to the cafe on a trolly.

There’s been another hurdle at the cafe. The shop needs some urgent electrical work before we can get the cafe kitchen up and running. We have that scheduled for Monday so will see how we go from there to get the cafe open and trading on a reduced menu. Our pies will be on hold for a while still.

On another note, our friend has put together a go fund me to help us try to set up another bakery kitchen. Big thank you to everyone who has supported us so far.

Things we lost in the fire.

1. Chefs bible - a collection of recipes from my career spanning since the early 90s. It had my signature cheesecake recipe I had perfected over many years and all of my cake recipes. I know I should have an electronic copy in this day and age but I’m old school and like paper.

2. Cookbooks I’d collected over many years.

3. Pie trays that fit my oven.

4. Oven to bake the pies.

5. Dough mixer to make pie pastry.

6. Cake mixer.

7. Pastry sheeter to roll the pastry.

8. All of our stock - we were ramping up for a busy week this week in the lead up to grand final. We had a lot of pre-orders for the end of the week.

Pie Shop - temporarily closed.

We’re still in shock after yesterday’s fire that destroyed our kitchen. Thankfully no one was there at the time. The blaze was sourced back to a faulty 20 year old light in the ceiling.

To all of the emergency services workers who attended the scene, THANK YOU! You guys are amazing, especially the firefighters who risked their lives to keep everyone safe.

To our neighbours around Burnley St who were affected by smoke and temporary evacuation in the early hours of Saturday morning - we’re sorry for the disruption.

And to our loyal customers, friends and family who have reached out over the last 24 hours with kind words of support - THANK YOU!

Next steps: we’re hoping to have our cafe open in the next few days. We plan to temporarily pivot our menu we’ll have our usual sando specials and sweets along with hot food, - stay tuned for our new dine in menu. Our famous pies are on pause for now, we will be back but need new kitchen equipment and a new space to bake.

Stay tuned for updates as we try to get back on our feet.
