In a world that celebrates the loudest voice, deep listening is uncommon and often, uncomfortable.
When I was learning with I was introduced to the idea of a Listening Circle, a process inspired by First Nations wisdom, where everyone speaks in turn, and everyone listens with intention.
No one interrupts.
No one plans their reply.
We listen, not to fix or judge, but to truly hear.
It struck me how rarely we offer that kind of attention.
So much of our energy goes into talking, persuading, presenting, convincing, when the real wisdom often comes from silence.
Deep listening isn’t passive. It’s active presence. It’s humility.
It’s the courage to hold space for perspectives that challenge our own.
If we want to influence and change things, maybe it starts with how deeply we’re willing to listen.
Is this something which resonates with you?
