Hi everyone,

I’m always amazed by the support this little idea of an ice cream bus in Roma has received over the years. We’ve welcomed quite a few new followers recently, so I thought it was the perfect time to introduce ourselves again.

👋 I’m Amber, this is my husband Scrubber (if you call him Wayne, I might not know who you’re talking about! 😄), and our wonderful workforce—our daughters, Aubree and Libby.

About eight years ago, we took a chance and started Bessie’s Ice Cream Bus. Looking back, Libby was just a baby and Aubree was what I like to call a “threenager.”

One of my favourite memories from those early days was our very first opening. Scrubber was away at a funeral, Aubree was sitting on top of the freezer in her gumboots, Libby was asleep in her cot with the baby monitor beside me, and I was trying to work out how to pour ice cream and run an ice cream bus. (Before anyone worries—we were parked safely in our driveway, not driving around like that! 😂)

That pretty much sums up our approach over the years: just get on and do it.

When I think back, I honestly can’t believe we used to sell ice creams for $3.50 and still make a profit. That was before COVID, global supply disruptions, rising freight costs and the cost-of-living crisis changed the world we all do business in.

It saddens me to let you know that we’ll once again be increasing our prices. This isn’t about making bigger profits—it’s simply about keeping up with the cost of doing business. Some of the products and ingredients we buy have increased by well over 100% in the past three years alone, and unfortunately those increases have reached the point where we can no longer absorb them ourselves.

We know every dollar counts, and increasing prices is never a decision we make lightly. We truly appreciate every family, every event organiser and every customer who chooses to support our small family business. Your support has allowed Bessie to keep bringing smiles, celebrations and a little bit of sweetness to our community for the past eight years.
