HOMED: Dark MillieFleur Belgian d’Uccle cockrel looking for a flock of his own.
Polite to handle, crowing and very polite with his ladies. (Unrelated to our Esmore lines) Located Romsey Vic POA

It’s a while since we had Sebrights on the property, but we’ve been very lucky to get a hold of some young silver and gold genes from a very reputable breeder 🙏
They’re only bubs, so it’ll be a while off to see what they breed, but we’re so excited to have a handful of silver and gold birds to play with.

It’s been a late hatching season for our birds this year - with some cute arrivals today 🐣 from very vocal Deborah… who has taken up swearing at me like an absolute sailor when I dare to show my face.
She’s one of our better lavender cuckoo ladies, who has decided she would rather go broody than lay 🤷🏻‍♀️

While I would like to build the flock with her genetics, I’m absolutely not game to give her career advice.

We also have an exciting new line that will be available down the track - we came across a well bred white Belgian d’Uccle trio and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to keep them going. We’ve tested fertility, and the handful of yellow fluffbutts in our latest hatch tell us they’ve been very successful. We’ll snap the parents once they’ve finished this season’s moult.

We’ve had a wonky season with the Belgians this year - awful weather ⛈️ in every direction ☀️ and tricky incubator issues has meant we aren’t selling fertile eggs this season.
But the good news will be pullets and cockrels an available as they mature into winter. The lavender cuckoos are laying like champs, including this little lady doing her best impression of a disgruntled ballon.

The Silver Pencilled Campine pen are enjoying some paddock time 🪶
These birds have taken years to get (kinda) right: starting off with some really weak lines, paying a fortune and growing out poor eggs - to deciding not to progress poorly bloodlines… it’s been heartbreaking!

But finally this season, we have a second year birds in the pens and will be testing fertility next to grow our flock numbers. They absolutely aren’t perfect, but they’re going to be fun to play with, and we’ve already found some strong (proven) lines to cross out to.
Can you tell we love a patterned feather over here? 🪶

Love this young Belgian d’Uccle roo, but I’m changing direction with my colours and selling on my blue and black mottle lines. This fella is up for auction on .P.P.A.P with two girlies that would make a great breeding trio.

As a breeder, it can be hard to know if you’re on the right track - it’s only the birds we keep that we can use to measure how well different lines are going. 🐣 but when people check back in with their successes, it’s a win!
This is Wonderful “Waffle” the self appointed supermodel of a customer’s 2025 Feb hatch… I was reminded it was a 10/11 success rate as well!
I’m loving the colour development of Waffle, these dilutes can wash out quickly, which is why I don’t personally cross porcelain x porcelain.
I can’t wait to see this young bird develop through a few more moults.
💛 thanks Miranda

Zebra 🦓 Easter Egger appreciation post:
All of our heritage birds have gone dormant laying eggs, Winter is a time to rejuvenate, focus on good food, muddy feet and supporting little bodies to recover from the fertile season, and bulk up.
But the little squad of around 8 zebra Easter eggers that I’ve kept for our flock, have kept us fed throughout winter. 🍳

I have kept and tested a few lines, but have found a specific type of Hyline bird, or my old Red Barn line of Aracuana and Marans girls are producing the most fantastic colours, size and frequency of eggs.
They aren’t all perfect, it’s a mixed bag of colours: some of my eggs are mossy, pale green, olive, blue or speckled - they’re all different. But they’re reliable, and a good
standard size (Hyline egg pictured below for comparison).

I’m now the 4th year into this line, and the choices for the Zebra Easter eggers are really clear.
When breeding season rolls around for us, I can’t wait to produce a huge flock of these brilliant little layers.
