A view of the patch through the lens of talented photographer Paris Hawken 🫶

Her visit coincided perfectly with the magic light of a Spring afternoon and we wandered around sipping G&Ts and chatting. Paris has combined her photos and ‘interview’ with me (sounds way too formal when it was such fun!) and you can find this in the Journal section of her website - https://www.parishawken.com/leftfield-botanical

Paris is a beautiful, creative soul and her genuine love and curiosity for the world around her shines through clearly in her photography. Be sure to follow this talented lady -

Taking a couple weeks away from the farm, allowing some space to step back and look at the bigger picture. Sometimes that’s hard to do when you’re surrounded by a million jobs calling for your attention and the day-to-day of business!

I’ll be back on board with the regular weekly bouquets in the second week of August. In the meantime any emails and messages will be responded to…possibly not straight away though! 😉

I’m still here! Poor FB is fretting and reminding me on an almost daily basis that I “haven’t posted in a while” 😂 So before they cancel my accounts, here’s pics of some of my fave dahlias coming out of the patch right now… 1) Aitara Laverne 2) African Sunset 3) Candy

Nights are getting pretty cool now and combined with shorter days that means the dahlias won’t be around too much longer. Crossing fingers we can limp over the line to Mother’s Day!

I’ve started incorporating local proteas into the regular weekly bouquets. You can find these at Better Choice in Margaret River and Darnell’s General Store in Rosa Brook. Delivery and pick-up from the farm also available, just DM me 😉

Thank you so much for all the kind words and love sent after my last post about saying goodbye to my little Lilly dog. It was genuinely comforting to read your comments and know others empathised. Lilly is now resting peacefully in a spot that has the best sunsets, under a beautiful magnolia and of course along with lots of her all-time favourite food - tomatoes 🍅❤️🍅

After a couple days of quiet time, I’ve been back in the patch today. Bouquets of fresh picked flowers have just been restocked at Better Choice in Margaret River in time for the weekend 💐

Meanwhile, please enjoy the cuteness of this little native blue-banded bee, having a snooze on the verbena at the end of a big day ☺️

Bit of a personal one… wasn’t sure if it was appropriate to share here but wanted to explain why emails, phone calls and text messages may not be responded to right away over the next day or 2. Today I am saying goodbye to my little companion of 17 years. Lil has been my sidekick on many adventures, made me laugh often, saved me from the depths of despair on more than one occasion and bought so much love and joy to my life. For the most part it’s just been the two of us, so her presence is going to be missed enormously. I’m gonna need a bit of time out here guys - thanks in advance for your patience 🙏💔

A little while ago I had the pleasure of a visit from the lovely Alex Wilson at Radio Margaret River. Alex has a wonderful podcast called Meet the Maker where she interviews local south-west creatives and I was honoured to be asked on the show! The interview originally aired last week but you can listen to the recording via this link -

https://www.mixcloud.com/Radio_Margaret_River/meet-the-maker-leftfield-botanicals/

In this interview Alex asks some great questions so if you’d like to hear a bit more about how Left Field came to be, why I do what I do and how I do it, check out that link and have a listen!

Oh and then come say hello at Howard Park’s Bubbles & Blooms event tomorrow! 😉 (see previous post for details)

Fresh flowers at Better Choice, Margaret River 🌸

Top-up of fresh flowers at Better Choice 💐
💛 Locally grown, not trucked and flown!
💜 Grown in a no-till organic system - always striving to farm in the most sustainable way possible!
💚 The majority of our flowers are raised from seed right here at Left Field
🧡 Our flowers are picked when at their best and made available to you by the very next day (did you know many flowers spend days and even weeks in transport and storage combined?!)
💜 Imported flowers (including most roses) have to go through some toxic processes to be able to meet our quarantine requirements - another reason to buy locally grown!
💙 We grow many unique varieties not often seen elsewhere, to make bouquets that are truly special

*Our bouquets at Better Choice are now $30. Regular customers will note this is a price increase and unfortunately a necessary one to enable me to keep doing what I do. Most would be aware of the price rises across many areas and this has certainly had an impact on the bottom line at Left Field. We still think our bouquets offer incredible value, not least for the reasons above! We hope you think so too 💕

For my nan ❤️
Flowers from my sister’s garden and my farm, in nan’s vase. A tribute to a lady who I will remember as forever cheerful, despite a life of many hardships. A determined woman too, achieving her goal of a letter from the Queen for her 100th birthday in June!
May you Rest In Peace now, Elsie Driver ###

Some pretty Spring bouquets heading out today, including one with my very first perennial Scabiosa (the big purply-blue flower in the middle). I am LOVING them! Grew these babies from seed, both blue and white varieties. The moment I saw this first one open, I was planning to grow more…lots more!! Yet another 😍

New plant babies getting a good watering in today with some timely rain. Of course the slugs come with it but any unlucky enough to get spotted end up smooshed on my boots (because I’m not a zen Buddhist and I don’t have ducks…yet!) I’ve been meaning to try a diluted coffee spray - anyone done this? Did it work?
If all goes to plan there should be some pretty stocks and snaps in a few months time 🤞
Massive thanks to .lou.s for helping me tick this job off the list 🙏😊

ACCOMMODATION IN RETURN FOR WORK

Left Field Botanical is a small-scale flower farm located 20min drive to the east of Margaret River, near Rosa Brook. We use organic practices to grow flowers for florists and retail sales. I’m looking for 1 - 2 people (single person/couple) to lend a hand here in return for accomodation. No experience necessary. Full training will be provided but MUST have a genuine enthusiasm for plants and working outdoors

THE WORK
10hrs per week
Involves early morning starts
The work varies but will include tasks such as; harvesting flowers, planting, seeding trays, bed preparation, weeding etc
You will sometimes be working alongside me but often working by yourself

THE ACCOMMODATION
Renovated caravan with double bed suited to single person or couple
Fully equipped kitchen (meals not included)
Bills included (Electricity and water)
There’s a small deck at the front of the caravan and also a covered area nearby for chilling in a deckchair ;)
Shared bathroom and laundry facilities

The farm is a 20 minute drive from Margaret River so you must have your own car! You will be sharing the property with myself and small dog Lilly. This is a non-smoking environment and a quiet, peaceful place - probably not for those who like to party every night ;)

Please message me for further details if interested

*Please note* this is work in return for accomodation - please only apply if this is an arrangement that would suit you. This is not a paid position
