Italy, 2007. Vinh asks for an iced coffee, gets told they don’t do it, orders an espresso and a cup of ice instead and makes his own right there at the counter 🧊 ☕ The barista’s response: “Now I will put this on my menu.”

Problem spotted, problem solved. That’s Vinh To, our MD in Vietnam! He came into coffee from construction back in 2000 (zero commodity background), learned the business by hanging out with farmers and visiting factories, and now runs our Vietnam team on one simple rule: one family, no hierarchy 💚

Australian roasters 🇦🇺, Rwanda’s fresh arrivals are officially on the water 🚢

These lots come from washing stations we’ve worked with for years, and those long-standing relationships show up in the cup quality.

Even better, these coffees are all tied to our IMPACT Beyond Flagship program in Rwanda: Coffee Productivity & Income Diversification. The project supports farmers in closing the living income gap through initiatives like livestock solidarity chains, regenerative agriculture, tree rejuvenation and crop diversification.

More content is coming but we couldn’t wait to share these (and our excitement!)😭

Distribution of tool kits started last Tuesday at Katerera CWS in Uganda as part of our Tools for Prosperity Beyond Flagship project. Hoes, spades, pruning saws. Sounds simple, but for smallholder farmers working plots of sometimes as few as 300 trees, access to basic equipment is the difference between managing your farm properly and not.

48 farmers reached so far. 510 in total who will benefit from this... so if you’ve bought participating Uganda lots, this is your money at work 💚 and thank you for helping us make this possible!

We have some Rwanda lots heading to Sydney 🇦🇺, which feels like a good time for a quick reminder about our Beyond Flagship project: Coffee Productivity & Income Diversification 🇷🇼

So... This is how we turn delicious coffees into solid impact. The project works through local Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs), helping farmers access resources they can put to work. That includes livestock to build another source of household income, along with cover and intercrop seeds to support soil health and diversify what farmers grow.

Farmers also receive agronomic training to improve income, biodiversity and soil fertility. Alongside this, women-led VSLA groups are producing coffee seedlings, creating local jobs and supporting more productive farms for the long term.

Your purchase helps keep this moving, with premiums from selected lots going directly towards the project. This creates a direct connection between roasters and on-the-ground improvements.

Sometimes, being a little judgy is exactly what our QC team is looking for 😉 As a QC Assistant, you’ll help keep our coffees up to standard, from sample management and physical analysis to cupping, sensory evaluation and all the quality checks in between.

If you have experience in coffee quality assessment, an eye for detail and don’t mind a bit of Excel, we’d like to hear from you.

Jamie's post-event dispatch is back and this time she's reporting from this year's SCTA Coffee Forum & Dinner, the Swiss Coffee Association's annual event bringing together the global coffee community 🌍

Last week, Jamie was in Montreux and she says that for the first time in two years, something other than EUDR was the hot topic at SCTA. It was literally heat 🌡️ More specifically, El Niño and its potential impact on global coffee production had everyone talking.

The vibe was also noticeably different from the last two forums which were, in her words, "dogged by EUDR switcharoos, record-breaking prices and Brazil crop fears." This year: postcard views of Lake Geneva, casino wins and pretty high spirits.✨

Her full take covers certified stock uncertainty ahead of December, why Brazil's 26/27 surplus feels like a long time coming and why East Africa is increasingly the answer when Colombia and Central America get tight.

Fresh Ethiopia arrivals alert‼️Three single producer lots have landed in Sydney 🇦🇺🎉

Three farmers, all taking part in our Lalisaa Program. Founded in 2020, Lalisaa (meaning "flourishing and growing") supports smallholder farmers to produce high-quality coffee by providing agronomic trainings, market knowledge and connecting them directly to roasters.

👉 Meselech Tube Natural: Meselech inherited Shantaweyne Farm from her family. Through Lalisaa, she hopes to support her six children as well as the hardworking employees who contribute to the farm’s success. This Natural lot from Meselech brings black tea, currant, honey and bright citrus to the table.

👉 Alemayehu Barasa Natural: one of the longest-standing farmers working with Sucafina through the Lalisaa Program, Alemayehu’s attention to quality comes through in this lot. Think juicy, remarkably clean and finished with lingering sweetness.

👉 Daniel Tunisesa Natural: Daniel travels 50 kilometres to attend Sucafina’s agronomic training sessions. That dedication comes through in the cup, with a full-bodied profile and plenty of brown sugar character.
