The Liquid Luxury Amateur Fortified Wine Show has just completed its third thrilling instalment, and this year's competition truly raised the bar. With an impressive 117 entries across all categories, the quality of submissions has continued to improve year on year. The competition has grown fiercer, so much so that our judges had to take it up a notch, scoring a little stricter this year to ensure only the very best were rewarded.

Congratulations to Darren J Read for taking home the 2024 Liquid Luxury Amateur Wine Show - Best in Show Trophy!

Darren’s entry into Category 1: Muscat, Class 1: Young Fresh & Fruity scored an impressive 98/100. His Muscat wowed the judges with vibrant apricot and orange blossom aromas, perfectly balanced by a hint of crème caramel on the finish. The wine’s freshness, balance, and concentration made it a standout in the competition, earning it top honours.

As the winner, Darren will be receiving a specially engraved 10L handcrafted barrel, generously donated by Andrew Young and his team at YNOAK.

Judged blind, we were thrilled when the winner was revealed. Darren has spent the last few years acquiring barrels, carefully moving and blending his wines, and regularly consulting with our winemaking team. All of this, while trying to keep his wine levels up despite his proud wife bragging to friends about his blends and wanting to show them off with every guest that comes over. His dedication and passion have clearly paid off, and the results speak for themselves!
