Harvest Series – Step 3 🫒⚙️

Once we arrive at the processor, the olives go through another clean using their specialised equipment. We are naming this one the Deleafer 10000 although after watching this in action we might have to rename ours to the Deleafer 5.

You might be wondering… if the processor has all this fancy machinery, why do we spend so much time cleaning leaves and sticks out beforehand?

Simple — the cleaner we can get the olives before transport, the more actual olives we are delivering instead of leaves and debris.

The olives are then weighed, which is an exciting part of the process as it helps work out how much olive oil we are likely to produce from the harvest.

Do you know roughly what percentage of an olive is actually oil? 👀🫒

From there, the olives are tipped into a hopper and sent through a washing plant, where they go through one final deleaf and are washed with water before processing begins.

Harvest Series – Step 2 🫒🌿
Once the olives are harvested, the next step is cleaning.
Before heading to the processor, we remove as many leaves and sticks as possible and stack all of our olive tubs ready for transport. Keeping the fruit clean and getting it processed quickly is a big part of producing good quality olive oil, so we aim to have our olives at the processor as fresh as possible after picking.
In this photo you can see the difference between our smaller maroon harvest tubs and the processor’s large white bins used for handling bigger volumes of fruit.
Now for the big question…
How many kilos of olives do you reckon fit in:
One maroon tub?
One big white processor bin? 👀🫒

Looking back on last weeks harvest, we just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped make it happen 🫒

A special thanks to Shane from St Arnaud Botanicals — not only a great neighbour, but always happy to lend a hand. If you haven’t checked them out already, they’re a beautiful flower farm just down the road from Moolerr Olives 🌸

Big thanks as well to Mitch, who some of you may recognise from recently getting married here at Moolerr Olives! Always there to help when needed. A sneaky selfie of Mitch which he took on my phone while getting some action shots.

And of course, harvest wouldn’t happen without the family affair. Mum and Dad have absolutely thrown themselves into this new venture and have loved being part of the journey.

Lastly, thank you to my wonderful partner Erin and little Percy — for the support, patience, and helping keep things running during the chaos of harvest season ❤️

We’re incredibly grateful for everyone who has helped us along the way.

🫒 This time last week we were gearing up to harvest well into the night!
Have you ever seen anything like this? 👀
When harvest time hits, it’s all hands on deck to get the olives off the trees as quickly as possible and rushed away for processing to keep the quality at its best 💚

Harvest Series – Step 1 🌿🫒

It all starts at the tree.

For harvesting, we use a battery-powered olive rake to comb through the branches and bring the olives down onto our catching frame underneath. It helps us harvest the fruit carefully while keeping the process moving along.

One of the most important parts of olive oil production is deciding when to pick. We wait until the olives are just starting to turn from green to black, as this is when they begin reaching their best oil content while still holding onto the fresh flavours we want in our oil.

Over the next few weeks we’ll take you through each step of harvest 🫒

Yesterday our olives were dropped off for processing, and here’s a look at some of the machinery used to turn them into olive oil! 🫒✨

There’s a fair bit involved in the process, and over the coming weeks we’ll go through what each machine does and how the olives go from tree to bottle.

Once the oil is made, there’s still more to do — filtering, storing, bottling and labeling before it’s finally ready for all our wonderful customers.

We’ll keep everyone updated as we get closer to having this season’s oil ready! 🌿

Harvest update 🌿🫒

Today’s job was loading up and dropping our olives off to be processed into oil. After all the hard work getting them off the trees, now comes the exciting part — turning this season’s fruit into fresh olive oil.

It’s always a good feeling seeing the bins head off to the processor knowing we’re one step closer to tasting the 2026 harvest. Stay tuned to see the process and, of course, the final oil 👌

That’s a wrap on day 2 of harvesting the olives for the 2026 season! 🫒💪

Another big day getting fruit off the trees, and tomorrow morning it’s off bright and early for processing into this year’s olive oil.

Can’t wait to see how this season turns out! 🌿✨

Introducing… the DELEAFER 5000 🫒🌿

Built in-house when we got sick of picking leaves out of olives after our first harvest 😅

It may not look high-tech… and there’s definitely no instruction manual… but this homemade machine gets the job done 👌

This beauty helps separate leaves and sticks from the olives before processing.

Who needs fancy equipment when you’ve got corrugated iron, timber, and a few “good ideas” 😂
