Gypsy is our most independent hen by far.

She’s the only one who always escapes, refuses to be contained, and prefers a solo life. She’s made homes in places she absolutely shouldn’t… including the dog pen (yes, with the dog 😅).

Recently she vanished again, and when we finally found her, she’d quietly set up a nest inside a hollow mulberry tree. We assumed the eggs wouldn’t be fertile as we’d never even seen her spending time with the flock or the roosters.

But today… 🐣🌿
Gypsy appeared, proudly wandering the paddock, teaching her 8 newly hatched chicks how to forage like a seasoned bush mum.

No help.
No supervision.
Just instinct, grit, and a whole lot of attitude.

She truly lives by her own rules, and we wouldn’t have her any other way 🤍
Nature never fails to surprise us.
