In light of the horses birthday, we’re sharing a special “Where Are They Now?” featuring the matriarch of the farm here at Holbrook Thoroughbreds.
💫 Avenida Madero, who turns 28 today! 🥳
Avenida was not only a successful racehorse herself, with multiple Group wins and placings, but also an outstanding broodmare, producing three Group winning horses (Graceful Girl, State Solicitor, and Respondent)
A mare of many talents, Avenida has taken on a very important role in her later years as a nanny to our weanlings.
Those who knew her in her younger days might be surprised at just how good she is at the job. She has truly perfected the art of setting firm (but gentle) boundaries — and even at 28, she still plays with her group of weanlings every day. Those babies certainly help keep her young!
While she may not be quite as fast as she once was (don’t tell her that 🤭), she’s often spotted doing a few cheeky hot laps and testing out her bronc skills… usually followed by a well-earned nap.
A huge thank you to the Peters family for their ongoing support and trusting us with the care of a mare like Avenida Madero!
We feel incredibly lucky to have such a queen helping raise the next generation of racehorses, instilling confidence and good manners in every group she leads.
