History uncovered.
Recently, volunteers at the Pittsworth Pioneer Village retrieved a plaque from under a tree in one of the Village ground's gardens. The plaque relating to eight local World War 1 soldiers who were killed in action was found to be in a very poor state with rotting woodwork and missing letters. Subsequently, the plaque was handed over to the Pittsworth RSL Sub-Branch for investigation into it's origin and possible refurbishment.
The RSL Sub-Branch quickly recognised the significance of the plaque and its value to the history of the area. RSL Sub-Branch Vice President Nev Cullen accepted the challenge of refurbishing the plaque with the assistance of the Pittsworth & District Men's Shed, where he is also a member.
The work is now complete and in consultation with all parties involved, The plaque will be again placed in a place of honour within the Pioneer Village grounds. The date on the plaque is 20th October 1917, and it is agreed that the replacement will take place on the anniversary of that date in just a few weeks.
